Hi All,
The horrible conditions on saturday got me to thinking that it would be nice to have something to work on when I'm unable to fly. It just so happens that the September issue of RCM&E Magazine had a set of free plans for a Luton Minor electric airplane. After looking at the plans I thought I'll have a go at this so off to Bunnings to grab some balsa.

I'm gonna try to turn this:

into this:
and show some pics along the way.

First off, cutting the wing ribs and tips, then transferring the plan to the wing skin, then the initial gluing of the wing framework. Waiting for it all to dry before going to the next step.

"Oh God,
Please help me ge out of the bad habit that
I have gotten into when flying."

Dumb ass Paul, seems tohave gotten into the habit of holding transmitter with his right index finger resting on the Trainer switch.
30sec after take off this was the result.

This time the crush damage is just too much. I have removed all
electrics and hinges, control horns etc and consigned the airframe to the
bin.

What with all the rain and wind we've been having it has
been a good time to get stuck into the building.
I have completed the joint venture with Kev and hopefully
you will see the results very soon. Biggrin
Now with the success of my F14 depron build I am now turning my attention
to another scratchbuild.

This time it's not even a flat pack kit.
I've downloaded the plans and will build using the sheets of depron available locally.
I'm even thinking of changing the plans slightly.Icon_twisted
Plans show wings as a flat section but I'm seriously considering using
depron ribs to give the wings an airfoil shape and sheeting with lightweight balsa.
Power will be from a 70mm EDF and it will have no wheels so probably
handlaunch or bungee.
I'll post photos as build progresses.

Hi Guys,

I had to go to QLD a few weekends ago missing any chance of getting to our paddock Mad .. but managed call a hobby shop to find and slip out to a very popular flying field up here on Saturday morning.. Biggrin
It is Electric and Nitro... Anyway I grabbed some footage of their setup just to show you all what I saw.. I felt like an inter-state SPY or something...
.. agent 007 on reconnaissance perhaps.. Tounge

** Funny note - This club uses a field just off Victor Bray's (Drag Racer) tomato paddock.. And you have to close a gate to keep the livestock in,, the horses bolt at you and the open gate classic ** Lol

First thing you see after getting in the gate.. well it is what we saw.. packs of Kangaroo's.. Wonder if a model has ever hit them?

... then you arrive at the main car park near their base shed..

... and finally some quick video footage from my hidden spy cam Camera
(Use the propeller statue in the footage as positional reference - past that statue is the area where they stand near the main landing strip)

SAAMBR RC Flying Field..

Video is attached to the story.. Looks like a little to much vibration to me..
It is inspiring to imagine rigging an RC version up ,, now imagine that..

Rebuilding my Island Hopper after breaking the wing in half, and now adding some better finished mods to the plane. Given I've learnt flying this plane comfortably. i want to continue to refine the skill of "not breaking things & keeping it in the air".
One thing I'm not sure of is how to find the COG of a plane if your plans/manual doesn't tell you where it is. There loads of stuff on the net but its all in inches and in the old speak of imperial.
One thread i read tells you to measure 4" from the fuselage along the thickest part of each wingConfused
Any advice???

Some of the rebuild pics of the Hopper below.

Hi Gang,
Sorry it's taken so long but here is the video of
Darren's F15 Flight at Temora last weekend.
Must apologise for the video quality but I had a number of things
against me.
First off, new camera and not familiar with using it.
Second, no tripod which on high zoom is a must.(make note: take tripod next year).
Third, howling wind. When standing out in the centre of an airport you are
very exposed to the weather and boy was it windy and cold. Frown
Anyway enough of the excuses, here is the first few minutes of the flight.
I gave up and decided to take photos instead.

BTW I have a bit more video of Temora but need to edit out all the rubbish and try
to give you an idea of what was on display. Hopefully by end of this weekend I'll have it posted

Just had to post this photo of my all
time favourite pilot.
This was taken at the weekend at Temora.
I call him Ivan the Terrible.
