Any body interested in mid week flying this week. I was hoping (weather permitting) in getting an early start, say 7.30am or 8am, but staying only for an hour or so (have to go to work! ).

hey considering the fact that alot of skyfun's were bought i thought perhaps a thread could be useful for building and modifying techniques..

i started mine tonight and took some pics, ( warning.. hk 5 min expoxy is fast! 4-6 is all you get to have it set)

i decided after reading some bad reviews that id remove motor mount and reglue, you can see in third photo that glue is not consistent across the entire underside of mount plate

It really didnt take much to take the plate off, as i applied pressure it sort of flexed and then "pop" , i reckon in a high G outside loop or something she could come right off in flight!

glued first side by wing first then added vert fin.. not sure this is best method had some trouble with vert fin after first joint overglue had dried, 30 min epoxy prolly would have eliminated this problem..

I did the secon side all in one go cause i was worried about not having enough epoxy left, this would have been easier if i had 3 hands, nevertheless it got done.

adding some fibreglass spars 2morrow.. getting late.

guys feel free to add pics of things done differently and what not cause im just going for it and will like the info.. Biggrin

Hi All
I have some more Really Annoying Newbie Type Questions. This time to do with radios and in particular the Spektrum DX.

If/When I buy my Island Hopper, I would want to use my DX7 as the transmitter for it instead of the ESky one that comes with it.

My DX7 came with a AR7000(???) rx unit which is a 7 channel reciever. Is it simply a matter of removing the existing reciever in the Hopper and replacing it with the AR7000, then Binding it to the TX?

I don't want this to be permament arrangement in that I have plans for the AR7000 later on (in a Heli) and would just temporarly use it in the Hopper until I can get a 4 or 5 channel reciever.

Will the lesser channel recievers (AR500 5ch, AR6000 6ch??? I think they are ???) bind to the DX7? If so, can I then "unbind" the AR7000 to use elsewhere?

Finally, is there a cheaper no-name generic cheaper version of the spektrum recievers? or should I just stick with the name brand stuff?

Hope all this makes sense,
Mick

Hi All,
I had my first flight on Sunday, what a buzz!!

Steve was kind enough to buddy up with me and let me have a go at his Island Hopper. After getting "3 mistakes high" he handed control over to me and I did some laps. It was a real buzz and i even managed to do a couple of loops and an Immelman or 2.

Want to say a huge thanks to Steve for the oppotunity to have a fly and for trusting me to avoid hitting the ground in his little hopper.

Mick

My EasyStar finally got bloodied last weekend. After two successful flight at the field on Saturday morning with Darren’s very capable hands in reserve I drove 220km into the bush to a secret and deserted (with the exception of about 20 kangaroos who were wisely keeping their distance) field. It was close to dusk and the winds were light so I decided to give it a go by myself. The first three launchers added some new farrows to the field but on the fourth I got into the air and had several minutes of joyful flying. Realizing I was probably low on battery I did a quick dummy landing run which seemed to go ok so around once more and then a perfect landing.
Feeling lightheaded and somewhat elated I quickly changed batteries and launched again. Throwing caution to the wind (pun intended) I went higher and further afield. Unfortunately it was at this point I suddenly realised the wind had picked up and I was having trouble keeping the EasyStar in the circuit. Then I made the mistake of doing two rather tight turns which due the great distance I was flying I did not pick up in time. I was able to recover but the EasyStar was now way over on the other side of the field and the light was fading. I managed to put the plane in level flight and pointed directly towards me. Feeling somewhat relieved I cut back power to let the EasyStar glide back to me, something it does very well on its own. It was at this point disaster struck as the Easy star executed a perfect right angle turn straight into the ground; I had run into a single power line that I could not see. Fortunately there was no permanent damage apart from some new wrinkles in the nose and a failed glue joint in the fuselage. It will be flying again next week end.

I'm sure there is moral in somewhere.

Kevin

As Kev had his birthday today and had the day off work
he and I decided to do a bit of flying and work on his T28 and spruce goose.
We went down to the field around 10am with my Cessna which had a new apc 10 x 7 prop.

Kev gave her a try first to compare how she flew today as against how she flew last Sat.
He immediately noticed a bit difference in performance compared to the stock prop( no name 9 x 5).
I then proceeded to undertake my first complete sole flight including take off and landing.
I was "Over the Moon" with delight not only in doing the solo but also in how she performed. Smile

We then proceed to take turns at flying her and kev found himself over on the far side of the creek almost in a line
with the water tower when we spotted something fall from the cessna.
The object gently fluttered to the ground and I immediately suspected that the battery hatch had fall off.

Kev was concerned that maybe the battery itself had or would drop out so he decided to bring her around
to check her out. Due to the gentle nature of the falling object I was confident that he had nothing to worry about
and told him so.
As he flew parallel down the runway just above head high we suddenly noticed what was missing. Shock

The 10 x 7 prop and prop adapter had come off and he now found himself with less than a third of the runway left
and no power to climb or go around. Redface

He did an amazing job in bringing her down in the long grass alongside the runway without a scratch.
Needless to say after searching for the prop for about 30 minutes we gave up and came home.
