A Bandit is Born
#1

What with all the rain and wind we've been having it has
been a good time to get stuck into the building.
I have completed the joint venture with Kev and hopefully
you will see the results very soon. Biggrin
Now with the success of my F14 depron build I am now turning my attention
to another scratchbuild.

This time it's not even a flat pack kit.
I've downloaded the plans and will build using the sheets of depron available locally.
I'm even thinking of changing the plans slightly.Icon_twisted
Plans show wings as a flat section but I'm seriously considering using
depron ribs to give the wings an airfoil shape and sheeting with lightweight balsa.
Power will be from a 70mm EDF and it will have no wheels so probably
handlaunch or bungee.
I'll post photos as build progresses.

You may wanna check out this thread on RCGroups about Kline-Fogleman (KFm) Airfoils as they might be easier to do than making up a wing with balsa strips and stuff. By the looks of things, it's just a matter of folding over the leading edge of your wing to make your airfoil shape.

Yeah, definitley look at KF Airfoils, much simpler build with tunable performance characteristics per airfoil

Depron cut ready to start assembly.
If weather is bad tomorrow I'll get stuck into it.

Well believe it or not it's finally finished.
Took a break from building it over Xmas and New Year but
i'm hoping it was well worth waiting for.

You are a man of many talents Paul
Looks like a nice job mate, well done.
What sort or power and propulsion system are you using.

Thanks Guys,
She is powered by a 64mm EDF with an ERC2445-3850 Motor.
This was the power system that was in my old L39 at the
time of her demise.Frown
643watts 42.4amps 1.14Kg thrust on 4s batteries.
I was quite happy with the way it pushed the L39 around the sky so hope
that it will do the same for this baby.

A really good-looking plane. Tell me something, though, Paul.....have you fibreglassed it...........definitely does not look like the original cut-up material. If so a really awesome job too!!

Thanks Victor,
Yes she has been fibreglassed in most places but not entirely.
Everything forward of the engine intakes, entire bottom of fuselage, wings,
horizontal stabs and elevators are fibreglassed.
Ailerons and flaps are made of balsa, and engine intakes sides and top are just straight depron.
White surfaces are painted in White Knight "Splashes" gloss arcylic enamel (Water Based)
and Orange surfaces are painted in White Knight "Strokes" gloss enamel.(Oil Based)
