Hi all – another battery question.

Just charged up my brand new Turnigy 6S 3300’s and all balanced perfectly apart from one. When this one was plugged in the charger only saw 5 cells, I went ahead and put a bit of charge in anyway and then the 6th cell appeared, but it had a low voltage (I can’t remember exactly but 2. Something).

Anyway, this cell and one other (for some reason) lagged behind the other 4 cells during charging. The charger then said the battery was charged but 2 of the cells only had around 3.6v (again I can’t remember the exact figures).

Is the battery stuffed?? No swelling or any other visual signs of distress. Maybe I give it a short run to discharge it a bit and try re-balancing??

Thanks for the help,

Graham

Just received the MAS Newsletter via email - and an excellent write-up of PRCAC's Australia Day efforts written by KevB was the main feature Smile

Hi all,

just wanted to put a call out to see if any of the experienced builders in the club would be interesting in hosting the odd "build" session for newbies like me - perhaps of a night after work or opportunistically on the odd weekend when the weather interrupts the flying schedule?

As both a novice flyer and builder, I know just enough about both to be dangerous Smile And while the flying side is being well attended to down at the field, I'd likewise love to have the opportunity to start learning the ins-and-outs of building from someone who knows which end to hold a hobby knife (i.e. "standing on the shoulders of giants" instead of "trial and error")

Sessions could be about anything really. Maintainence + repair (post the weekend's "misadventures"); 90% ARF from box to air; scratch built coming together; etc.

Bit of an ask, but just wanted to throw the request out and see if any <strike>victim</strike> one was interested in putting their hand up...

Hi everyone,

Just setting up the Gaui 550 I purchased recently from Skidz and I have a quick question about battery connectors.
Just got my order of 4x Turnigy 3300 6S lipo’s from HK and they have 4mm bullet connectors on them. The ESC has a Deans (I think I have the terminology right!). Is it best to

A) Replace all the battery connectors with Deans
B) Replace ESC connector with male 4mm bullet connector?

I am thinking replace the ESC connector (less work), I guess easiest would be to buy a separate converter (if they are available) but that means more inefficient connectors, more wire/weight etc…

Any comments/suggestions??

Many thanks – I hope to see you down the field this weekend – prob Sunday, weather looking great!

Graham

Hi,
Saw Hobbyking had a Micro P-40 on a Flash sale for only $30 so I thought I'd take a chance and ordered one.

Anyways it arrived today and I've put it together and I'd thought I'd write up a bit of a report. The pics aren't great cause I used my iPhone cause my regular camera is broke Frown

It come in a box that was well packed with bubble wrap that seemed to protect it pretty well.

Unpacking the box showed the various components to be fairly well packed but nothing was labled. Not recommened for a beginner build.

The First big challenge was the instruction manual. Not a lot of english in it at all. What little english what there was made some very creative uses of phrasing and grammer!

Time to get to work. Opening the baggies revealed the smallest brushless motor I had ever seen! This thing is tiny...

First thing todo I think (manual wasn't too clear, I tried to follow the pictures as best I could as it showed a different plane) was to mount the servo's and speed controller.

Next, mount the reciever and the control rods. Not a lot of room inside so this step involved a bit of fiddling to get everything to fit neatly.

Glue the two halves of the fuse together and set aside to dry.

Glue on the tail fins and mount the control rods and control horns

Main wing halves snap together then mount onto the fuse with platic pins. Attach the prop and all finished apart from adding the decals

The whole build took about 4 hours, however 2 of those hours were spent chasing after my 2 year old who insisted getting into mischief the minute I'd take my eyes off her to glue something.

Also, important note: check the direction of the motor BEFORE gluing the fuse together so that you know it spins the right way. Trust me, not fun having to pry the foam apart cause I got the plug on backwards!

Finally, I didn't realsie that this was onyl a 3 channel plane (no airleons) until after I had ordered it. A bit of research shows that some people have added airelons to these micro planes so I've also ordered a Dubro Micro Aileron System which is on its way. I'll fly it as is first before attempting an upgrade.

Finally, I have to figure out how to charge the battery. It uses a tiny little connector of a type I've not seen before. Any one have suggestions?

Mick

Build!!!
Here's my newly finished XS Smart Dart (ideal blatantly copied from Kevin). It weighs 22g without a battery and I'm thinking of running it on 3S which gives it far too much punch for the design spec (hence the extra dihedral brace and leading edge CF).

If the weather stays crappy, it might even get some undercarriage (or floats) and stickers.

Fugly, but it glides ok across the back yard. Smile

I always wondered when Hobby king would jump on the band wagon and start suppling the Scorpion Motors instead of making motors with similar specs.
Well my wondering is over http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...duct=17396

Hopefully they bring out a full range of the scorpion motor styles especially the 22 series 2221 styles in all the kv setups

For anyone new to scorpion motors here is a link or links for info and specs

Lots of Info for Comparison, Specs, Software etc

Love Scorpion Motors Biggrin
Push them past the limit and there still want more and more haven't burn't one out yet.

Just thought I would show off the latest
edition to my hanger.
It's a fibreglass fusealage with balsa wings
70mm Eflite model.
Same power setup as the Parkzone Habu

Don't think available in Australia yet.
Modelflight are taking preorders. I bought mine from US.

I was wondering the youngest age someone can learn to fly r/c a/c
I am looking for an "in" to commence r/c flight. If I include a child or two, I might get the required edge, besides having something pretty special to share with them.
Cheers
