Field Condition...
#61

Must have just missed you guys, Stephen B and I went down for a quick blat with the AR.Drone etc.

If we have a week of no rain it will be back to normal, Fingers crossed.

How did the AR.Drone go then Kieran - was it a maiden?

It looks like we'll need several rain-free days before the main-strip is good again - and even then it will probably need mowing. Belly-landers might get by at the top end of the cross-strip if they're keen in the mean time, but anything with an undercarriage would struggle with the conditions at the moment.

Well, that's La Niña at work I guess! ... back to building ...

Just the wind was keeping us from going over late this afternoon. Frown

Here is another pic I got of the field today.

Just got back from walking around the field - it's much better now than it was 24 hours ago.

There are still a couple of mushy patches on the main strip, but if there is only light rain for the next 36 hours or so, then we should be right for Saturday. The top end that is set aside for the Oz-day trials is of course perfectly well drained. The only down-side is that everywhere the kikuyu and paspalum are loving the conditions.

Droped in to the field this morning to test fly my new Katana.
It was to windy.
However those of you that liked the long grass around the strip for gentle padded landing will be dissapointed.
The council boys were at it with the slashers and have cut all the grass right back to the edge of the creek.

Nice To hear the council have mowed it down, low low passes here i come Biggrin

It Was getting pretty High though, did need a cut
Hopefully with all the hot weather, they may even be able have a go at cutting into the reeds a bit further in if not straight over on the drive in end at least.

I'm also happy to hear that. Whilst its good for damage mitigation, the long grass promotes the flies that annoy you to the point of crashing! Prevention better than cure! Wink

I'm trying to picture in my mind's-eye what it looks like now - it's been so over-grown for so long, I can't remember what it looks like when it's bald.

Its not that bald Steve
The slashers cut the jungle down.... they didnt remove it!!

There were no obvious wet patches on any of the strips and the location where we park the cars is nice and dry,
Noted however that there were what looked like some recent tracks on the main strip. I presume that these were made by council machinery(?).
Grass is not long however, One would presume that it will be much longer by the weekend,
Pretty sure that with a light mow both strips would be in pristine condition by the time the weekend arrives

Victor

WOW.............I think I spoke too soon.........black clouds overhead and it's starting to belt down!!!

I Concur Field is in good Condition, as i bumped into Victor heading out as i was heading in.
There was no Rain while down there or when i left so hopefully we don't get much more before the weekend and it will be Great.
Strip fine for taking off and landing as tested while down there.

Field Condition update troops
I droped in this afternoon for an hour for a few flights, and to my surprise, our good old pres had obviously been there before me.
The strips, taxi way, heli area and pits are shorter than the memory of a 90 year old with alzheimers.
Looking good for this weekend the field is in tip top condition.

Gday All

There was s short but sharp storm yesterday afternoon that zapped through Toonie about 1530hrs. From the field condition it was a serious H2O dump. Looked awesome on the radar!

Took Ingo's advice & advanced to a larger plane. Broke the piggy bank and wandered over to Liverpool & bought a 1.45m E-flite Apprentice. Have the other half on a day out on Saturday and was looking forward to giving it a maiden flight. From the looks of lake McCoy, I think I should have bought floats.
Cheers,
Wayne.

Gentlemen - Samste is having a good ol' April Fool's day laugh at our expense! (see my earlier post from this morning)

The field is fine, it does need a mow, but here's a shot taken today (1st April .... of course) at about 5:30pm when Junior and I went over for a fly. I put a couple of batteries through the Blu-Baby and Owen flew the P-51. All's good for tomorrow Smile

I haven't seen the field but expect it has water over the runways (enough to stop the planes). Could be a "helicopter only" day if the rain backs off. Too bad the plane guys have the keys Biggrin (joke)... but I'm sure the flying is going to be a write-off!!

Well Gentlemen - we at PRCAC might say "A picture is worth a thousand swear words" Frown
Junior took this shot this afternoon at about 2:30pm and we've had a bucketload steadily added since then too. Looks like we can all sleep in tomorrow.

Thanks Guys,

All I can say is "Bugger" - was looking forward to fine weather having fixed the Cub & the Twinstarr II.

Just have to wait for next weekend, but it doesn't look promising either.

Regards,

Dingy
