A very leading question with many answers.
If you are a beginner, then we have instructors who can help. If you have an electric model plane and need to start from scratch we can help set up & with buddy leads to get you up in the air with backup to minimise crashes.
If you are already an MAAA member from another club with bronze wings, you can fly unsupervised as a visitor. If not you can fly on 4 occasions before being required to join.
Most importantly bring along a friendly attitude and be prepared to socialise & ask as many questions as you like.

Hi All

Just wanted to introduce myself as I would like to join your club.

I was previously flying down at Ermington but the council have now started enforcing their ban of flying there. I actually wasn't aware it was banned until the signs went up last Saturday.

Anyway as it happens I am more than happy to join a club so I intend to come over on Sunday afternoon for a look around if that is OK?

I used to fly a lot when I was a kid and have recently picked up the hobby again as it is so cheap now (and very different!). I have been flying again for about 9 months and and am now really getting in to scratch building foam models. I have so far built an FT Bloody Wonder, FT Viggen, Saab Draken and an F22 Raptor. I also fly a Durafly Spitfire and P47 Thunderbolt.

Most of all I am looking forward to having a decent runway to land and takeoff on and some people to share the fun of flying with.

thanks flying fisher i've had about 5 years experience with cars and am quite adept on the castle hill dirt and on road track but in the air is a different story i own a bix 3 and am learning to fly that. i was also wondering wether i need to be a member or have my bronze wings to fly with a buddy cord connected to one of your instructors

Hi Ben, keep an eye on flying this weekend thread Friday & Saturday evenings for advice of field opening. Bring your Bixler along & if you have a Spectrum receiver either myself or another instructor will be happy to buddy you up in the air for a few pointers & backup. No bronze wings or MAAA membership required for 4 sessions of flying whilst covered by our insurance.
After 4 sessions you will be required to join to continue to be insured which is a strict requirement to fly at our club. Once you have been deemed to fly competently you will be allowed to fly solo without an instructor & when confident & competent you can be assessed for your Bronze wings.

Hi folks, I came down a few weeks back and spoke to Steve… err Chris? err Dave?… Sorry, but I remember a excellent yellow bi-plane and a FW-190!! First of all thanks for making me feel so welcome!!

I've taken the advice given a few weeks back, and got a DX7s second hand.. Yipee… and got the simulator on order… hopefully this week few weeks sim'ing… then I'll get a plane.

But I am planning to head to Vineyard this weekend, to see if I can find a trainer 2nd hand. Thinking bixler… never been to one of these trade fly-ins… am I best to go first thing Sat… or Sun. Is the club still planning on a stand there… it was mentioned a few weeks back.? When?

Popped down to the field the weekend before last (sun arvo), and was closed up. What is the best time to catch members at the field??

I believe Sunday to be the open day where you are more likely to see what you are looking for.
As far as visiting our field, keep an eye on our forum for opening times. I normally open about 8.30am unless golf, a day out with the other half or bad weather keeps me away.
We hardly ever leave the field before midday unless the weather changes. We are mostly still at the field until mid afternoon by not as predictably as the morning.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself, I am a friend of George Semaan and he has told me a lot about the club, I have visited a few times with him and like the idea of the club being 10 minutes from my home in Bella Vista. Looking to join and need some sponsors. Unfortunately, I believe that George has joined Penrith RC Club and is not able to sponsor me anymore.

I have been an avid RC modeler for many years, starting in Helicopters, then moving to multi rotors and now Aircraft, I think they are the hardest to fly…..only kidding as I have not had any flights with a plane yet.

Like scratch building things and have a number of aircraft models I am inching to get into the air.

Would appreciate contact from other members who have an instructor ticket to buddy with me and get me flying aircraft as well.

We generally fly from about 8.30 to early afternoon on Saturday & Sunday each weekend. You will be able to fly 4 times at our field as a visitor before joining as you will not be covered by our insurance after 4 visits.
We have several club instructors who will be more than willing to help with final flight setup & buddy you up in the air if needed with a few instructions.

I note looking on the web site that there is a form that I need to download and fill out, which I have done. Only problem is the sponsors. How do you suggest I go about that. Should I come down to the field and ask some people, I have been there 2 times already and have met a few people, cannot remember the names however.

I am happy to join now and have my MAA number which can be re-registered, think the last time I did that was 2 years ago when I was a memeber of HEMFC.

Looking forward to catching up with someone down at the field this comming weekend if possible, weather being good. Will look out for the messages on the Flying Weeekend thread.

Hi All, I live in Ermington and was getting into the sport some years ago and ended up moving then with kids not having a chance to really get into the sport with a half day needed to get out to a field and fly.
Now days things have changed and the kids are more independent. As well as mid week fly's being a possibility. I have tested the water and picked up some electrics and even some slow flyers to get my eye in.
I have an underground car park and have been flying Vapor,Mini Vapor, (Mini Quad) and 2x Copters down stairs in the bad weather and in the nearby park on good low wind days.
I still have my gas planes from 15 years ago though doubt they will get into the air with the quality and ease of setting up the electrics from what I have seen. (+ the gas planes need work to set them back up and convert to 2.4GHz.)

I also have a Trojan in the box - As well as a Mini "Beast" not game to fly them yet. I am realistic on gaining the skills to become competent & confident.

Picked up a new DX6 with the flight sim software from Ultimate Hobbies earlier this year and had some fun on the sim & had a super cub out for a few good flights and of course a few good stacks in my local park and when I went up to Brisbane I took them with me for some fun.

Anyway looking to gain some tips. Good communication with like minded people who are happy to advise and guide. I am not way too far from the field and will keep an eye on the forum to see when someone will be down there next to drop in and say hi. Do a meet and greet to start the ball rolling. I have the next 2 weeks off so am actively out getting things together and flying the indoors every day at the moment so am quite keen.

If you read earlier posts on this thread you will be aware that we are electric only at our field.
Please bring your electrics to the field & you will have heaps of helpers to get you up in the air & flying. We are a friendly bunch all willing to have a chat & answer questions.

Hi there, my name is Douglas but prefer Doug.
Recently I purchased a Hobbyking Bix3 trainer and thought it a wise choice to get some expert training on how to fly it rather than run it into the ground. After a quick search on the web I was excited to find a radio control aircraft club just down the road from me, so I went down for a visit last Saturday.
I met Wayne (nice to meet Peter as well) who was most helpful and suggested first thing I should do is join up to the forum with a mug shot.
Ultimately I'm looking to join the club and I know my youngest son is keen to try out as well.
Saturday and Sunday mornings free can be a bit tricky as I explained to Wayne but I'll work around that. Wednesdays are good for me as I have this day off.
Anyway, I plan to be down at the field (weather permitting) this Sunday either first thing in the morning or nearer 11.30 with my plane.

Unfortunately in contradiction to my comments when I saw you at the filed, I will not be at the field this coming Sunday. Every 2 or 3 Sundays I play golf & 1st Feb is one of them.
I am sure you will have somebody at the field to assist you in getting the Bix 3 into the air & give you some stick time.

Hi, Doug.strange you should say, Bix3 ?. I'd just put one together yesterday, I had a Bix1 unfortunately. It was destroyed in a crash. Since then I've been flying multirate is but I decided to buy another Bix. Just as fun aircraft to fly. When I feel like it.

Now putting it together was relatively easy. In fact, pretty foolproof. The only drama are I seem to have it is attaching the wing. There are two little bolts that you put in this lot, and then twist. You have to twist at the right way otherwise it won't move . Only problem I could find.
