Q & A Thread For Newbies & Old Hands Alike!

No Steve I've bought bulk servo lead wire and plugs and sockets.

Peter, I've got crimpers like that but they are not the correct ones.
Darren has sent me a couple of emails with links to where I can buy the proper ones.

My Flash T Carbon has arrived, with be a month or so before it is ready for its maiden. (Still need to purchase some expensive bits)

1. Are you using ultra thin servos in your Alex and if so which ones? The Hitecs recommended by Espit Models for my Hotliner are $60.00 each and I need 5.

2. What is the name of that super epoxy that Darren says all the turbine guys use. I would like to get some for the motor mount?

Thanks mate

I intended to give them a go but found they were just a bit thick for my wing and would have made the cover sit a bit high.

I payed the extra for the hitec's and in the end one of them was dodgy....

Brand name servo's are a rort unless they're JR 8911's!

If they are 4mm bullets Steve and they look like they are, I have a truck load.
I will bring a few down to the field tomorrow if you like.
Buy the way I think they are heaps better than XT60.

Gday Steve

I'd go the bullets for those puppies, I don't think XT's would safely carry the current you will be drawing. Knowing you it would be sufficient current to power a small town for a brief period, ie 6 mins or until the town fuses itself into electrified slag.

Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience with programming of digital servo's?
I need to reverse the direction of travel with a given input signal from the RX.
The plane I am building uses 2 servo's for the elevator and you can reverse 2 wires in the Y lead or programe a servo to run in reverse.
The servo in question is a Corona/HobbyKing DS 929MG
Thanks
Chris

Failing that Chris, don't suppose you have any spare channels
available on your rx?
You could slave one as a second elevator channel.

Want to get tis bird back in the air, but those flimsy 4 blade props break easy and they are always on backorder at HK.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...duct=11228

How would i convert this to a 2 blade, do i go up one size and pitch?
What issues will i contend with?

Hi Pete

There are many different converstion formula out there for changing the number of blades you are currently using.

But the simplest one that is pretty close to the money without breaking out the old slide rule will suggest the following

4 blade 10 x 6 =
3 blade 11 x 6 =
2 blade 11.5 x 6

The only difference is the more blades you have the less torque effect is generated on the airframe during take off when high rpm and low airspeed are present.

Hope this helps

Pete, if you've got the stock motor (DAT/DT 700 Brushless Motor 700 kv) then this page ...

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...oduct=6246

... quotes a few prop sizes. I'd suggest getting a few different sizes and testing them with a wattmeter connected. In particular, it will handle a maximum current of only 13 A, which would be easy to exceed with a prop which is too large.

An altenative is a motor upgrade too of course, but I've not see one of those Mustangs fly for a while and I can't remember what they're like.

Your issue is that the motor mount is not that strong, if you swing a larger prop (2-blade) you will break it unless you have it 115% balanced. I speak from experience on this as I had the very same thought with that model. The best prop is the one on it.
Reply

The motor mount in Petes Mustang could hold up a hacker 50. I know cause I build it.
But it is a given that if you change a prop you do a amp test. Not a good idea to overload the ESC or the motor.

Not wrong, after a cartwheel on the ground, the nose ripped off the plane clean with the firewall holding the front half solid.
Unlike humpty dumpty she's all back together again, but sitting idle waiting for a prop.
Will fiddle with it today with a few props...

Servo Humm,

Installing the servo's in the Advance 25e (HS-225MG) and without horns not a sound.
Now that i have had to connect the control rods, the servo's humm!

Note that the level of the control rods is lower than the height of the horn, so i had to install the connector upside down, pain in the arse! And they also apply a little up pressure to the servo.
Is this horizontal pressure applied by the non-level rod, is what making the servo humm?

Is this bad and any suggestions on how to fix?

in my experience the small amount of vertical pressure should not bother the servos and the humm in my opinion is probably just because the are digital servos which like to humm when finding centre and have even the tiniest amount of pressure in any direction on them. this is normal. in saying that i would rather be telling you that while im in front of it in person so that i could hear it for myself and view the angle of the pushrod. i say bring it to the field and let us confirm but sounds ok..

Well said Kev.
Check the load on the rods with the servos horns removed but pulling through the same plane (and I dont mean your plane, I mean the position they would be in if connected to the servos), if they move with little to no effort then it will be as Kev says, just servo sensitivity. If they are sticky and require some effort to move them, then you may need to re route them, BUT on an Eflite ARF I doubt that vey much.

Does anybody know of a supplier of quality fiberglass tube? I'm after some thin walled tube about 30mm diameter actualy I also need some that will fit inside that tube as well. I could use carbon fiber but would prefer just glass if I can get it.

many thanks

Thanks Paul, I want it for wing spars for a 2m span version of my flying wing. I want to make it come apart for easy transport.

Hi guys! I am after a Spektrum Tx. The Spektrum DX6I is the cheapest but does it have a buddy port? Hobbyking has a few cheap ones - dont know if these have buddy ports.
Reply

I have a "spare" M2 DX6i I'm sure I could sell at a totally unreasonable price Wink.

HK do have some very cheap radio systems but they are not MAAA approved for use in Aus and their use may impact your insurance coverage by ath assoc. I was otifinally a Sanwa and HK T6A user and have converted all but one plane to Spektrum.

To answer the question - yes, the DX6i does have a trainer port.
