HobbyKing Group Orders - Discussion
#61

Gday All

Thanks for the advice, Kieran you are right, I am "scared" of raw horsepower at the moment. Due to the fact that I have had very little flying time of late I have decided to step back a bit and consolidate my skills on the mini cub. If I turn it into a missile I will not be achieving the above aim. I am also very geared at the moment to building/ improving as opposed to repairing. My 1.63m glider now has a modular motor mount that will allow easy changes of power sources to cover some experimentation that I have planned in a month or two, the Twinstar is also almost ready to roll so for those 2 aircraft I want to really make sure my fingers and brain are at their flying optimum. Could I give that bell motor a spin as it seems to be the best option so far until I decide a final motor choice when I am back up to speed?

Cheers

Hi all, I recently bought an E-flite apprentice but need find an appropriate battery and receiver for it. Instructions say: 11.1V 3200mAh 15C 3-cell Li-Po or 11.1V 3200mAh 20C 3 cell or 11.1V 3300Mah 25C Extreme V2 Li-Po. After looking through the hundreds of batteries on offer at HobbyKing I have found a 3350mAh

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... oduct=5721 is this too powerful or I should I go the 3200mAh http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... oduct=9156

I also need help finding a receiver to suit my DX7 (?)

and one last thing, I need a replacement prop for my ST cub it's length is 210mm and 10mm at the hub if that means anything to anyone. I've gone through the manual and it does not give a proper size. The prop also has a hexagonal hole.

First up, excellent plane choice to learn with, they are very sweet flyers!
I wouldn't recommend either battery you picked! One of the ones is for RC cars and the other is a bit over the top price wise and you would never need its full potential.
I would recommend this battery: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... oduct=9500. For that price you can buy 2 and still come out ahead!

Decently priced Spektrum receivers are a bit tough to find at the moment as HobbyKing aren't stocking them for the moment. You'll have to either buy local or order from the US (A bit cheaper if you're going to order more than one, Maybe we could ask around and see who else needs receivers at the moment and do a group buy). As for what to get, I'd say get a AR6110 Park Receiver and put it in your cub and move the AR7000 over to your Apprentice.

As for the prop, the stock prop on your model is either an 8x5 or 8x6. This would be the closest match: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... duct=10054 Or you could try Kelletts at Liverpool, they have a stock of ST spare parts and could be worth a shot at getting an origianl.

Hi Gazza,
You go to Hobby King website and look for what you want.
When you find it do not click on anything to order there, just
copy the link that appears in the address bar at the top of yoiur web browser.
Come back to our website and in the Group order thread post a reply and paste
the link and quantity that you want Kieran to include in our club order.
That's it... Smile Kieran then places the order and works out the cost and will email you
with bank details where you pay the money.
Couple of things to remember, watch the stock levels on the Hobby King website.
If they show negative values they are not in stock.
If you want to order an out of stock item do a separate posting ie. don't include
in stock items with out of stock items. If you do, Hobby King hold the order until
the out of stock item arrives before sending the shipment.
Hope this explains it ok.

K,

I've ordered some film. I'm in Adelaide this week and then work is sending me up the coast so I won't be able to even think about needing it for amost 3 weeks. If you've already got a big box, then add it in, otherwise let it wait.

Drew.

9g Servos

Just going through the build instructions for the HK FlyCat and it specifies 9g Servos. Had a browse on the HobbyKing website and found these:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store..._0.13sec_#

Does anyone know if these would be ok or could someone reccomend one to use.
Thanks

Hi Mick,
Don't know much about those particular servos.
I've been using these ones for awhile now and found them great.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...roduct=662
You can even buy spare plastic replacement gears for them if you need to.

Thanks Paul, thats exactly the sort of info I was looking for. I typed in 9G Servo onto the HobbyKing website and got pages of results so that one I picked was pretty much at random.

Gday Mick The one that you linked i guess is a lot cheaper than the one that i use for all my planes now.

The Googling of reviews for the servo you mentioned seem good though was a bit concern with the one review of high Amps draw but if you only going to use a couple i wouldn't think it wouldn't be an issue, check your ESC bec current to be sure.
But that review of high Amps could relate that his has very high loading on servo.
For example : large aileron span / weight / Tension etc for servo to move on his Plane causing High Amps draw on servo.

Kieran put me on to These as they are Metal Gear, less chance of stripping and very smooth response as well when theres no power to plane they move smoothly manually and theres no chance of damage to gears ailerons or elevator is knocked.

Though there 4 x the price the servo below

Thanks

Hi guys (Kieran especially)
I broke the motor mounting bracket on my Hobbyking P51D Mustang last weekend.
Every thing else apart from the prop is fine. I do however need a new motor mounting bracket.
I have scoured the HK website and cant find one ...... can anybody suggest a replacement as the aircraft is grounded without one.

Unfortunatley its a part they don't sell, I have a stick mount that will do in its place. you just glue in some 1cm square balsa stick and mount the motor to it.

Just Found this on Hobbyking

Quote:Volcano cause for delay in Air traffic over Europe 17/04/2010 2:23:38 PM
Due to the ash cloud from a volcano eruption in Iceland drifting over Europe, most airports across Europe are closed and flights cancelled. All mail services to European destinations are subject to delay until further notice.
This includes all air-freight within Europe and all air-freight FROM USA, Asia and Germany.

This could be one of the reasons for the delay as well as a backlog in orders

Gary, I have the wheels for the P51 but they are useless for our strip, they'll do more damage than not having them.

I will be using the AR6110. So your saying that I don't need a Y cable? How does that work? :? I know that my trojan uses one or will this be a different (better??) setup?

Rob i Think this is what you are after for different motor mount for Stryker and Funjets a lot stronger.

Gday Steve

Thanks for the heads up re the replacement motor mount, I am pretty sure that when I get confident with the Stryker it will probably end up getting "turbo charged" and thus require a stronger mount. I have now shoved the battery all the way forward so next flight the CofG should not be in the hideously aft position it was previously in. I am also very seriously considering rebuilding in balsa just for the stir of it, however as per my comments in the Easy Sport 40 rebuild thread I have quite a few other projects on the go.

Also Kieran, what is happening with the HK orders and also the Spektrum orders, are you still waiting for HK to ship and also for Spektrum buyers to yayornay?

Cheers

Hi Arron

I'm not sure about those ones, i think there a bit more awkard to read.

But i use the following Eagle tree Airspeed and Altitude sensors and they work great with a lcd readout of your top speed or altitude

(This is My air speed readout on my Fast funjet)

How far does the Aussie dollar have to drop before Hobbyking is no longer a cheap option?
Things aren't looking good. I certainly won't do a personal order till things start looking up.

I've got 50 pairs of these (mine are 100mm pigtails) coming from an ebay seller and I won't need anywhere near this many. They've sent me confirmation they are in the post and I expect them to arrive Monday or Tuesday.

I'd be glad to share them with you - how many would you like?
