I don't understand why HK would do something like that. It increases complexity and therefore the level of risk. If you did want to convert to a standard 8S plug:

The plastic bits would be sufficient for the conversion, since the metal pins can be extracted without too much fuss from the 4S connectors.
You could also cannibalise the plugs from these, and have lots of stuff left over:
