Archive: Flying this Week...

Anyone planning on braving the field and go flying over the next few days? I'm on Holidays for a couple of weeks and I want to try and get in as much air time as I can.

Hi Mick,
I'm also on Holidays and have the same idea. I actually went down to the field a couple of times during last week.
If it's not raining, I'll probably go down tomorrow morning around 8:30am for about an hour. I've just been walking in off the street with plane in one hand and bag of stuff in the other (since I don't have a key).
I'll post in the morning as I'm leaving.

Hi Guys,

if the weather is good tomorrow morning I will go down 7.30 to 8.00am for an hour or two.

Trying to keep it short as I also am on holidays & don't want to upset the wife.

Shall be trying to go as much as possible over the next two weeks.

If raining in the morning I shall not go.

All the best Ingo

Hi Guys,
I won't be joining you for a couple of days, if the weather is OK to fly, as I going away trail bike riding for a bit.
I should be back on the flightline on New Years Day weather permitting.

Hope you all have a good one and Happy New Year to all.

Chris M

I'm out of action for the rest of the week too.
Keeping wife happy by pulling up old floor tiles
in the kitchen and putting down new ones.

This is the only chance I'll have for awhile as I've got couple of
grandkids coming down to stay with us from Brisbane for a couple of weeks early in new year. Biggrin

Will be great to catch up with them during their holidays so not sure how much flying I'll get in then.

Hi,

Let me know if you will be there in late afternoon tomorrow (around 4:30pm). I may head down the field if someone is there. I probably won't try to retrieve the lost plane just now as I guess the field is still quite wet.

Steve, I want you to try flying my Panther.

Colin

Hi All

I will post Tommorow Afternoon Before i head down to the field if i get back from work early enough, and weather is ok.

Hi Guys,

Went flying today, it was terrific conditions at long last.

Colin came for an hor or so & Steve B & I had the rest of the morning to ourselves.

Would like to say a big thanks to Darren for mowing the field on Thursday - TOP EFFORT - looks great again with the defined runways.

Steve & I spoke to the guys who do the mowing for the council - asked them to leave a perimeter around the field a couple of metres.

This is so the outline of the field and a cushion with longer grass can be maintained around the field.

They said they would be happy to accomadate us & shall mow next week & maybe come down tomorrow for a visit - they were impressed with the planes.

Hope to see more of you tomorrow as last Saturday only Chris tuned up for a short visit & Colin was coming as I was leaving.

All the best guys hopre to see tomorrow & again thanks Darren - well done.

Hope the weather is good on Sunday as both Kev and myself are planning on
getting down to the field and catching up with all who are there.
Really missed flying these past couple of weeks but needed to get the work done around the house
to keep in the good books. Wink

Message to Kev and all
Sorry to see your monster dig a hole today, however.. if you are agreeable I would like to offer my services to rebuild the aircraft, you did state that you were going to bin it, please don't. The basic design is extremely sound and it would be a shame to turf it. Please let me know if you are cool with handing over the wreckage, of course hang on to the batteries, motor or anything usable etc etc.
The above goes out to all club members who are thinking of binning aircraft after a good stack, I would be more than happy to take "bits" off you as I have a major interest at the moment in cobbling bits and pieces together and devising some unique designs. As I have aeronautical engineering qualifications the process of experimentation is strong and ingrained and I wish to expand on that. The process of building is the most interesting part of this hobby to me and if I can build skills from stuff that would otherwise end up at the tip I would be happy with that. The overall plan for me is to build experience so I can scratchbuild
I also look forward to handing back to members aircraft that may have other wise been written off.
BTW Kev, was it the speedy that screwed you, and, I nominate you for the "best" stack, it sounded like the real thing which I have witnessed, if you had a fire and fatalities as well it would have been 100% and been in the newspaper tomorrow.

Cheers
Rob Byrnes

Everything armed an ran post crash, I reckon it was a nasty thermal cut out/brown out that caused the rx to reboot. It takes just a bit longer than kev had to resync. Possibly a slight bit higher might have been a different story!

Rob, no problem mate, ill hand over the wreck to you. Although i spent a heap of hours building it , i had started it before i had flown a rc plane and i did some things that i would definately have not done again in the ic to ep conversion. if i hadnt have taken it on it would probably have still been on the shelf at dads house so i dont feel bad. im happy to give it to you mate as im keen to move forward on two other projects i have at home and i dont really want to put anymore time into it.. the airframe itself was very stable in the air and it was actually very easy to fly and did not come in anywhere near as fast as i thought it would but the power system was not matched and the motor was labouring to fly the way i wanted it to. at the end of the day i could have flown it around in nice slow circuits and probably wouldnt have had a problem but i like to put my foot in things Icon_twisted i guess the half kilo metal plate on the nose didnt help anything either Shock

What interests me the most is how i crashed.. :ugeek:
im actually worried about all the components from the plane and their usability in the future as i swear as i stand b4 you at the moment of the pop i lost complete function of the aielerons and it was a bad feeling.Yet in the post crash test i had function! my dilemma now is should i re-use the esc? and even the rx? i guess what kieren said has happened a thermal cut out but still im alittle worried about putting it in my pc9 cause if i lose it the same way in that plane there will be tears

Gday Kev

I know what you mean about trusting the tx and rx, I guess you have 2 options, bim em and get new gear or you could test them in something more expendable and see if you get glitching. In regards to the PC9 do what I did with the Cub, use a receiver pack and voltage regulator. That way the speedy can cook itself to high heaven and you will still have control to deadstick if need be. It is also heaps safer as you can check control surfaces and program up your tx without arming the motor.

Cheers
Rob B
