Archive: Flying this Week...

Much to my regret, I believe SRL has kicked himself out of the "Wednesday retirees-in-training flying club" by becoming gainfully employed. Upset

Ben, if you don't get a better offer, I'll be flying Wednesday morning.

Oh yes - Ben, I can highly recommend some Trojan flight time, don't miss out on that!

Steve Murray

Whilst is is very tempting (as I had some time on samstes one) unfortunately I am not feeling that well today and am having more of a sick day then a day off. Thanks for the offer though.

Having said that, I have a feeling there may be a trojan in my future anyways.........

No probs at all
Just got to the field now
And the breeze seems to be dropping off
Often does toward the golden hour Smile

I brought the Trojan

Sounds good. One question: how hard did Toongabbie get hit by this afternoon's storm? (since I'm actually free to fly tomorrow, I guess I know the answer)

Jonesing for some stick time here!

If you do, put a shout out before you go down Cool

Signature overload. That list just got ridiculous. However, Funcubs are .... fun.

Actually mate, I don't know - I was in Parramatta at the time and it was all over by the time I got home. Although the ground outside the house looks alright now, the flood basin is a completely different kettle of the proverbial kippers.

Steve Murray

Thanks Steve. Will probably head down some time this afternoon.

Hmmm... bit windy again up these parts. I'll check in here again after lunch.

Yep - there's plenty of moving air at Toonie, way too much to make flying enjoyable.

Steve Murray

Yep a good afternoon for doing some building

Ugh, it's blowing a gale at my place, and came online to check whether it was any better at Toongabbie. Ok, building it is Smile Here's hoping for better on the weekend!

Sorry my fault. I committed to the club and now no one will fly again...

I flew a Bixler today with the HK stabilizing board.http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=24353
The wind was blowing hard and wanted to rip the plane out of hand. The board was working overtime stabilizing the ailerons as I was just holding the plane into the wind that was shaking the plane. It worked great, solid stable flights and landings was perfect and level with winds gusting hard. No more excuses for not flying on a winday day.Thumbup

Happy to say that today I broke a personal record. Did three flights on the Stinson in under an hour. All without incident.
At first I found it hard to handle and must honestly say that I need much more stick time on this one before I can say that I will be really satisfied.
Taking off was quite easy given the conditions.
However I have an issue with its landing. It either keeps on floating by or else it thuds down into the ground. I suppose it's a matter of getting the approach, level and speed right.
I would great appreciate it if, this coming weekend, someone would be kind enough to help me by way of suggestion when I am about to commence my approaches etc.
Having said that I feel pretty satisfied with how thing went.Smile

Smile

Good work Victor - get yourself a beer Smile

Steve Murray

Nice work Victor.

On the approaches, perhaps try keeping a little bit of power on (just a bit more than would keep the prop turning). Regarding the thuds, you'll soon get a feel for when you're coming in a bit too slow, and a quick squirt of power will arrest the sink rate.

Grab me if I'm around next time, and I'll happily back-seat fly the Stinson with you.

I agree with Claudio in a little bit of power when coming in and gentle on the elevator.
As i had my first flight with stinson on Saturday with Steven's and it was a very nice flying Machine.

Well Done Victor

I shall certainly utilize all the help you guys offered. Thanks again.

Perfect weather. Perfect wind. Perfect field.

And, one a half flights in, the perfectly horrible stink of chlorinated gas or something of the sort (vented from one of the industrial units I suppose). Enough to make your eyes water. Ron and I skedaddled quick smart...

Not cool!
