Archive: Flying this Week...

Hi all,
Is anybody thinking of flying tomorrow morning, especially someone whom has a key, as I am intending on going down for a couple of hours from 8-30am or so. If no key is available I will be walking in. I am hoping the at the grass is not too long.
See you there!
Chris M

I'm saving my brownie points for maybe Wednesday AM.

Yes Drew, according to Willyweather, Wednesday looks pretty good - especially in the morning where the breeze is supposed to be only 2 km/h at 0700. By around 0800 or 0900 it should also be excellent ... as long as the strip isn't under water. Owen and I will go over there tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon and have a look at the ground - we'll report back here in the early evening.

Steve Murray

I am coming down at 9 for a few hours.
See you there Chris

Don't ever let the fear of landing keep you from taking off!

Hi Guys,
Just got back from the field and there is a little too much water lying on the strip for the larger balsa planes, so I intend on trying tomorrow morning with Drew and Steve B.
I may go back this arvo with some hand lauch planes.

Gary,
Sorry that I just missed you and hope that you didn't go down just to open up the gates for me.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Guys,
Is there someone available tomorrow morning to open up the gates at around 8-30am or can a key be made available as I understand that a few members are keen to fly.
I have partially mown the strip and the forecast is promising so it is all good to go.
Chris M Smile Smile Smile

Chris - KevB is set to arrive at about 8:30am, so he'll open the gates then.
Thanks for mowing the cross-strip!
Cheers,
Stevem

Steve Murray

Thanks for the heads up Steve.

Cool I might get down there for some stick time as well. Not long finished puting a new motor and ESC in an old model might be a good time to try her out.

Any one keen to fly on Thursday morning or Friday morning?

Colin - Owen and I might get there for a morning fly, can't be absolutely certain just yet. I'll post back here later.
By the way, SteveB managed to get your plane out of the tree near Grace Removals this morning - he used a telescopic pole and managed to get it free. I think ChrisM might have the plane to return to you.
All the best,
SteveM

Steve Murray

Hi Steve,
I am keen for a couple of hours from 8-30am or so and I think Steve B, Kieran, Jason are also interested.
Let's enjoy the good conditions while it lasts.
Cheers
Chris M

Sounds good Chris - we've got our batteries back on the charger now.
Just have to get the Trojan back into flying condition after re-painting it, should be good to go for tomorrow.
Cheers,
S

Steve Murray

It was perfect flying conditions today and we had a great turnout with a range of planes. Special thanks to Kieran for bringing his forms and green pen and also hanging around for my two cursed "last flights".

The first was the whirlwind REACH. It ejected the battery just the other side of the reeds (in front of the tower) and floated to a satisfyingly soft landing. For some reason, as it was descending, I insisted on holding up evlevator ant attemted to keept he wings level!!!??? No plane damage but unfortunately, a lost 3S1000mAh battery. Kieran drove arround t oassist and gave me a lift back.

The last cursed "last flight" was with my PT20. I was starting to practice Gold wing maneuvers as well as other things that may not even have a name as maneuvers. I'd got quite low and thought I was on the other side of the wires so levelled up and started to climb. A mighty BANG! and a lurch of the plane indicated that I was indeed much closer to the wires than I thought. I was able to glide it in neatly to the back paddock. Again no damage (other than a black mark on the wing from the wire) and a second drive around the back in two flights Frown.

I fought the wires and survived! - and I have a witness to prove it Smile.

I need to collect some more browne points and try to finish a PC9 build. If the weather's still good on Saturday, I hope to see you then.

Happy, and safe flying,
Drew.

Mate, I'd love to - but ... my CFI hasn't given me permission to fly any of our planes solo yet, so I'll have to get my trainer finished and hopefully maiden it on the weekend.
Have a good one Gazz.
