I had a look at the field this afternoon too, and as Dave says, there's really only scope for helis and perhaps light "floater" type fixed-wing planes at the top end of the cross-strip.
The ground is fully waterlogged as it was a couple of weeks back, with water pooling everywhere - even in the car-park.
Looks like a weekend for building for most of us ... or a trip to Penrith again, maybe.

OK, KevB might also be interested in a trip to PEMAC (I've not spoken to him about it yet, but he's often up for it). We could get ourselves a convoy together!

I'm looking forward to our Korean war showdown, but I don't like our chances much - the little MiG could really do with just another couple of extra horses under the hood.

i think steves 50mm mig goes heaps better than i thought it would but i dont know that it will keep up with your 64mm 4000kv on 4s gaz.. , interesting to see tho as the mig probably weighs abit less tho and gaz's fan is an unknown factor..
i suggest landing when dads f86 takes to the air tho as that habu setup on 5s in the composite f86 airframe will be hauling ass i reckon. Smile
i cant wait to see them all hit the skies once the weather clears tho , its cool having a new time period set of airframes getting around.. gotta love variety Smile

But I will be flying on 3S to start with. The videos show it haulin the mail on 3S with a simple under arm hand launch. I reconif I want to run it on 4S i will have to up the anti on the ESC.
Buy the way, I just weighed it with flight battery .... 465 grams.

Yeh Gazz ... I'll go over on Friday and have a look, but as we know, it will be a while before our field recovers.

Maybe we ought to consider building some RC hovercraft! The problem with McCoy when it's wet is that the surface water runs off after a day or two leaving pools which aren't big/deep enough to land a float-plane on, but the ground is so saturated that fixed wing aircraft are grounded for another week or two. A hovercraft would fit the bill, and be a lot easier to control than a heli. Might be worth looking in to ... probably have to build from scratch though.

Hey Steve M,
Is our field in good enough condition for the heli (AKA - mobile ceiling fan) pilots to drive their cars in and park?
If so, I can open the gates for them on my way out to Penrith - as long as someone is at the filed at about 8-30am.

Hmm - good question Chris. A 4WD would be alright, but your average sedan might have some trouble getting back up the ramp. There isn't much space at the bottom of the ramp to get a bit of a run-up without going wide and probably bogging down in the mud.

OK Paul, you go to the northern end of Russell Street and when you go past a roundabout which has a McDonald's restaurant on the right (as you're heading north) then you're almost there. About 50m past the roundabout the road swings off to the left but a dirt track continues straight ahead. The gate is right at the beginning of the dirt track.

Dunno if this helps but have a look here at nearmaps. This is the Penrith field. It is accessed by that long dirt road which starts at the gate on Russel St. I should be there tomorrow as well...

Was at the swamp this afternoon and the bike has been back but damage was minimal however the field at this stage will probably take 2 to 3 weeks to dry out to were cars can gain entry if we get no more rain

Junior and I walked in late yesterday afternoon to look at the situation - met Chris and Graham there.

Junior noticed something interesting - all the reeds in the creek bed seem to be drying out. Whereas there's obviously been plenty of water about and most of the foliage is green, the reeds are looking brown and dry. I haven't seen this happen before, is it likely to be a seasonal thing or could we be blessed with their removal?
