Field Condition...

Another approach is to go and talk to the kids that spend time in the area and see if they know who is responsible. A few $s may help too. It could be that people walking their dog saw it happening and would respond to a computer created sign asking for information. These efforts could at least put the wind up the perpetrator and make him think twice about doing it again.

Good luck catching them, There are a few that do it purely as a malicious act. They know when we're there and when we aren't.

Just had a walk around the field and I'm pleased to say that it's recovering quickly!
The photograph provides the evidence - there's only a little standing water, not enough to have us grounded by Wednesday. The forecast for the week looks very good, so things are pretty positive. The only issue is that some light fill would be useful in some of the tyre tracks.

Nice recovery by the old girl eh! The forecast looks terrific for the next 7 days, so a nice light breeze with the forecast sunshine should help have the field back in order in next to no time at all!

Hi Guys, remember me, I have not fallen off the face of the earth. Anyway I am back now.
I went down to the field at lunch time today to find that it has dried up even more since Steve's posting and would be OK for a quick haircut Wednesday afternoon/evening if anyone was planning on flying on ANZAC day. Alternatively if it is going to be a late start on ANZAC day it could be done early with flying to follow.

Cheers
Chris

I understand that a mowing party is planned for Wednesday afternoon, I shall have Ron's mower but can't be there till 5pm. Is this too late to be of help?

what time flying tomorrow

I depends if Wayne is getting there to open up for us?...

If he's not going to be there, then the starting time is a bit of a lottery but a safe bet would be about 9:30am I guess (I'm too lazy to get there much before that myself).

Further to Gazza's post on flying this weekend, I have taken a few photos of this weeks curse, being the burst water main & it's affect on our field

Walkway to heli area under water

View of Grace building driveway taken at fenceline behind field box. Note the water escaping from pipe up from the ground at right hand gutter

Is it fixed yet ??

Or will tomorrow see the strip good for flying ??

Don't know for sure, but I think not from what Wayne seemed to be reporting to Kevin at about midday. Wayne had been up to chat to the water-board blokes who were working on the problem.

Over the three hours I was there today, the amount of water on the strip didn't change (so no increase or decrease). If that's still the case tomorrow, then there's only the eastern half of the strip operational. It was irritating, but unfortunately the overspill cut across the runway almost right in the centre - could it possibly only flood the western end of the strip? Nope, right across the ****ing middle.

I spoke to the Sydney Water guy who said they tried to turn off main to that water supply without success & would have to wait untill all factories in area closed & would have to shut down water to whole of street. He said it was up to Grace to repair damage. Who knows when they will be able to get a plumber with suitable gear to dig & possible cut concrete to repair damage

So it's probably still running now ??

I dropped in to have a look at the runway on my way home from PEMAC and found Peter4x4 there flying his Trojan - all good, the runway is clear of water and although it's damp underfoot, it's perfectly operational at the moment.

I don't know whether this means the water main has been permanently repaired, but at least the water isn't flowing across our runway any more!

I've just had a quick look at our field and the news is good!

The PCC slasher-bloke has been through and given the place a good going-over, including a reasonable amount of the area on the southern side of the strip which has dried out well over the past week. The runway doesn't really need mowing (which is fine by me at least, since I can't spare the time this afternoon). There are just a few paspalum stalks here and there which could be picked by hand tomorrow morning within a few minutes. Other than that, it's a nice smooth surface - even by our own exacting standards.
