The 2nd....well....my wife is in love with Mark Webber, so to keep the peace, I'm with whatever team he drives for, which means Red Bull for another year at least. Smile Smile

There are no "Holdens" or "Fords" they are V8 supercars.
They might have a babge stuck on them, they are a lot of things but Holdens and Fords they aint, not buy a long long way and any one who thinks they are is wrong. I have favorite drivers these days, some of them wear blue and some wear red.

G'day Gazz

I too don't really follow the Ford\ Holden thing.
The cars are purpose built race cars and are so far removed from the street models that aside from the overall shape they are on a different planet.
Don't they all have Chev engines?
I reckon FPV and HSV should only enter cars that are roll caged saftied up etc versions of models you can get from a dealer.
That would be awesome!

Gazz i agree there V8 Super Cars and no way true Ford or Holden.
And they are designed with so similar specs, otherwise it would be white wash in races and not competive.

I agree to it comes down most of the Time with the Drivers skill, But with Bathurst the way it is, that is not always the case.
Weather, Car Failures, other Drivers etc

Being a Ford Follower since i was a kid wathching Johnson and Brock etc

PowerA V8 Supercar must have a front-engine design and rear-wheel drive. Every car uses either a 5.0 L Ford "Boss 302" SVO or a 5.0 L Chevrolet small block race-engine (depending on the make) - capable of producing between 460 and 485 kW (620 — 650 bhp) of power, but generally quoted as a little over 450 kW (600 bhp) in race trim. Engines have pushrod actuated valves and electronic fuel injection. Both Ford and Holden engines are based on racing engines from their respective US parent companies. Engines are electronically restricted to 7,500 rpm.

Car of the Future (CoF) plans announced by V8 Supercars Australia this week will see the sport adopt new rules from 2012 that will make the series more affordable for existing teams to compete, while also paving the way for the inclusion of manufacturers other than Ford and Holden.

Valid points, guys....On reflection I must agree with you. Having said that, I have been a fan of Lowndsey for years..Holden/Ford/Holden.

Amazing race too. 1000Km, 161 laps, 6 1/2 hours, .29 of a sec!!
Just switched over to watch the F1....good, but.... reminds me of Vicky Pollard from Little Britain: "Yeah but no but yeah but no but......."

What happenned to the TOURING CAR, every day mum and dad's car battling it out, ever since '93, ; '94, all went to shit, last REAL RACE was '92 when Richards and Skaife took it out with the Nissan GTR Turbo..... Looks too much like NasCar these days Sorry Guys, BORING!!! I got Pics with all the heros in the day, Johnson, Perkins, Longhurst; Brock was the only untouchble, poking out of his caravan.... circa '89'90 I think...... anyways... boy shit has changed.....

I did watch last 10mins, going for Lowndes, was actuallyy ecxiting for a while :-)

I remember a couple of great Bathurst races, one where Peter Williamson had the 1st racecam camera mounted in his yellow Celica. He was great to listen too, firing off expletives at the front runners of the day, Johnson or Brock in their ill handling muscle cars which were slowing him up over the top of the mountain, only to see them pull away down Conrod straight.

Or when Gricey only had 2 gears that worked (2nd & 4th) in his A9X Torana but he still managed to give the front runners a hurry up for a while before surrcumbing to the inevitable.

I liked the days when you had a field of 100 cars not 29 like today and that comprised of various makes & models, they had different strengths and weaknesses so it made for an interesting race. Remember when the first turbo cars came on the scene, Nissan Bluebird driven by George Fury and even the brick on wheels (Volvo - Robbie Francevic). The Bluebird had to have a tall diff ratio so that it could hit the required terminal speed down Conrod without blowing up but this reduced it's ability to pull up the back straight.

Anyhow enough of the old days - I'm sounding like an old fart.
I did enjoy today's race it was a fine effort by Lowndes to catch Tander given the way he had to play 2nd fiddle to Whincup all day. However the safety car does ruin it a bit, bunching them up all the time and taking whatever lead someone may have had away.

You will find them used to "adjust" the race. Anyone remember Sydney MSP last year, when someone, can't remember, Tander?, was running away with the lead in the series. Then, for a minor incident, out comes a Saftey car and the race ends up with 4 potential championship winners for the last race of the series? Pirate

But yeah, nothing to do with production cars or bands. In most areas, for the remainder of this year, at least, the road cars are more technologically advanced. Double whishbone IRS? OHC? Which craft! Dammit, my 1987 Supra was more advanced. Nothing to aspire to there.

On that note, I find arguing over Holden vs Ford (well, the local offerings) a bit like arguing over Macca's, Hungry Crack's and Chucky Duck when there is foods worth actually having an opinion over out there.....

.... yes, I do own a Crumblydore, but it has no k's on it, plenty of metal and space around me for protection from your average derp in a people mover and it fits a 1.5 metre plane in the boot intact. Good enough for me and my purposes Biggrin
