Venturing into the Unknown...
#1

My brother Chris, God bless him, has just bought me a Birthday pressie...A HobbyKing F4 Phantom EDF!!!

Isn't he a darling?? As if I don't have enough stress in my life what with helis, a Spitfire, and all...he now wants to add to it with this jet thingamajig!

Anyway, I'm not going to let it beat me..I have put it all together, run it up.....it certainly doesn't need a sound system, it comes with one pre-installed in the form of a 70mm high speed rotating fan "speaker". Smile

Weather, wife and kids permitting, I will be out there on Sat or Sun this week to give her a go.

Tips, advice, sniggers and laughter all welcome. Photos and videos a must! I will be bringing my new professional HD video to get everyone's prides and joy.

Good luck with the maiden. Gazz will tell you to make sure you have batteries that haven't lost their mojo to make sure you don't plant your EDF in to the grass at the end of the runway. Biggrin

Yeh!!! Good one Dave Dave. Crack yourself up you funny fu**er.
Andrew
If its a small Jet make sure it has big wheels or at least wide ones.
The trouble with smaller HK or low powered ducted fans is that they need ground speed/airflow to give the fan the volumetric flow to generate efficient thrust.
If it cant get enough speed over the ground as Im sure you know the thrust tends to be a little lackluster.
Either that or bungy launch the sucker.

I would caution against hand launching if you can't take off from
ground, you just can't get enough airspeed over the flight surfaces.
Best way is to bungee launch if it is low on power.
Many a plane has been broken with hand launches (ask me how I know.......Frown)
