Minimum age requirements
#1

I was wondering the youngest age someone can learn to fly r/c a/c
I am looking for an "in" to commence r/c flight. If I include a child or two, I might get the required edge, besides having something pretty special to share with them.

My old man waited till I was 31 to take me down the field to fly Smile, I'm pretty sure you can start younger than that tho...
Seriously tho There are a heap of members that often bring there kids down to the field and get them involved including myself. I have a son that is 6 that has two planes of his own( basic big w cheapies) this way he gets a turn and has some fun, I'm not sure of any rules as such on age so somebody from the committee might answer that for us , how old are your kids anyway?

Thanks for the response.
Maybe he was waiting until he thought you were old enough :+)

I was mostly thinking of the 9 & 11 year olds.
Not sure if the 5yr would have the hand-eye co-ordination.
If they can participate it make a huge difference.

I guess to fly they would all need to be members ?

cheers

G'day Martin,

For the children to fly at our field on a regular basis, they will need to be members, There are childrens concessions available for MAAA membership and the club will do its best to accommodate members with chidren.

The kids will definitely have the Hand Eye Co-ordination if they have any access to video games, you may run into issues with attention span if it's not their cup of tea however!

We have facilities to safely train yourself and the kids to fly.

The best thing you can do is to come down one weekend and say g'day to everyone, Unfortunately the weather has been lacking over the last few weeks so it would be best to keep an eye on the "Flying this Weekend" & "Field Condition" threads to see when people will be flying next. If the weather is good and the field isn't submerged you'll find us most Saturday & Sunday's from 9am till 1pm ish

I bring my 6YO (he was 5 until last week Wink ). He "flys" a 3D foamy I have.
I get it to a safe, level height and let him have his way with the controls until it gets too far away or too low and then I recover and reset for another go. We sit on the flightline with him on my lap so we can both share the controller.

Eventually, I'll consider another tx for a buddy box arrangement.
Both of my kids love to use the sim @ home with a dummy controller. I learnt initially on the sim and it is a good indication if they have the understanding of the controls to face a "real" craft.

We have a vid in the vid thread of a 6yo asian boy doing 3d maneuvers with a helicopter. I figure, the younger you start, the earlier it gets easy. (Kev's still catching up Wink ).

Yeah, I didn't proof read it. I've done some edits so you can at least read it and make sense of what is being said. Smile
