#1

Hi guys,

I created this new thread so you post re on-line sessions at PRCAC no.2

On now myself. Just look for PRCAC.

Yes, good idea Dave - a fun way to while away the time.
Mick indicated that he won't be able to work on tweaking the simulated field for a while, but he generously made the project files available so when I get some time I'll start running them through the editor to see if I can continue his excellent work.

Super ticked off tonight.

Tried to join your session Steve but had to update to 3.0.r. Restared phoenix, went online, joined PRCAC then crashed. PC rebooted as a result. Never had that happen in 15 years. Joined the session for 3 minutes then crashed again. 10 crashes later and 10 self initiated reboots, I am so wanting to kick this computer it aint funny. Never had any issues until "R" version - my 512MB of RAM can't take it. Only happens if you go online, Something serious is happening. Sick of the message "You have recovered from serious error" message. Duhh!

Love to be able to join you but unfortunately
dongle still not arrived. Frown
Got email advising that it was dispatched on 15th
so hope it arrives before next Thursday so
that I can take it to Brisbane with me so that I don't
miss out on too much .

Trapped the error. 3.0.r introduced a conflict with my NVidia driver when in on-line mode causing the video to crash and the computer to turn itself off. Fatal errors now gone after driver update.
Guys,

1. Just thinking that we should have a common password for club sessions so we don't get gate-crashed.

2. My other thought was that Mick posted his excellent work on the public side of the forum. I think his posts and links should be moved to the private side save the PRCAC site going global.

Ok, I will open a thread on the private side and post a club password to use. If anyone starts a session, they have the option of using this password (or not of course). Won't post the password here as this is the public side.

The idea was to publish the field for everyone to share eventually but if you guys want me to move it I will till we're closer to a finished/polished product.

No you dont Steve
When you start the sim up make sure you are connected to the internet, It will automatically do an update. It will then recommend that you upgrade to Version 3.
And I would if I was you, the graphics have been improved and the options menu particularly the aircraft physical measurements, ie: you can adjust almost any perameter on the aircraft such as wing cord, motor kv, c of g, length and width of ailerons flaps etc, this allows you to make the aircraft handle just like the real thing or just the way you want it to.

Happy flying

Hi guys
I got impatient and went to Castle Hill and bought
the $40 dongle kit.
Just been online with Dave for a few minutes trying it out.
It's great but I'm having a little problem with the speed of the planes.
Tried F16 Turbine, P51 Mustang and Corsair and all appear to flying at approach
speed even when flat out.
At Dave's suggestion I dropped the Picture Quality to see if it was frame rate related but
did not make any difference.
Speed is the same if I am single user mode or online mode.
I've tried both my Spektrum DX6i and JR PCM9X and both the same
Any suggestions?
Heading off to Brisbane Thursday and want to be able to fly from up there.
Kev , when the other dongle arrives it will be yours Smile
Heading off to do a couple of chores and will go back online in about 30 mins

OK I've had a little more time to play with the sims and compare.
First the good news. The dongle also works great with Real Flight.
Using my JR PCM9X I had all 9 channels detected. Same for Phoenix.
Now the not so good news.
Planes in Real Flight definately MUCH faster than Phoenix.
This may well still be a setup thing on my pc but I still haven't had much luck
increasing the speed on Phoenix.
I reckon the Habu feels like it's only running on a 3cell battery not the 4cell stock or the
5 cell rocket like Darren's and Kev's.
Will conduct further tests another day but I need to head off to bed now as
I have Hospital appointment early morning.
Will report back after further tests but in meanwhile I welcome any ideas.

Paul, I'm experiencing the same thing with Phoenix. I haven't tried this yet but, I'm going to look at the "edit" function for the aircraft and play with some parameters.....frontal drag...thrust..motor...stuff like that. I won't be able to do it for a while but will also report back later today.

Just an idea Paul (as I don't have two sims to play with)...

It could be the display zoom or the sound or both that might make it seem slower. What if you choose the display panel that shows altitude, speed, etc and take the Habu for a blat and note its speed. Do the same thing on Real Flight and compare. Could be they show the same speeds or similar.

And then again they could well be different.
Reply

Hmm - interesting, again ... it's a bit difficult to determine what might be causing this, but I certainly don't see any apparent slowness, but ... it could be just me being correspondingly slow of course! The Habu model certainly rips up the sky and the others (Trojan, Thunderbolt, Stinson, etc.) all seem to offer life-like speed.
One of the things that the installation program reccommends is that you ensure you're running the latest drivers for your graphics card, so that might be something to check. But other than that, it's a bit difficult to advise without actually seeing what you mean. Is there any way you can make a screen-capture video of it Paul, so we can see how dramatic it is?

The Phoenix FAQ doesn't help? (http://www.phoenix-simv3.com/support.asp)
Could this be something particular to the "dongle" version I wonder?

After talking to gazz tonight at the committee meeting he suggested that
I go into edit for the model and increase the kv of the motor.
Well went into the edit /detailed area for the Habu but could not find where it let you
increase the kv. What it did do however, was to let me change from the default middle
of the road setting to advanced and that certainly made it much more responsive and quicker.
I still reckon all the planes in Real Flight are much quicker though.
Gazz, where exactly are you changing the kv?

Yeh, well good luck with it but it shouldn't really be necessary to alter the motor or model parameters to get realistic model behaviour - right out of the box they should be fine. I suspect something else as an underlying cause.

Steve Murray

Sorry Paul

You dont actually change the kv, what you do is go to EDIT MODEL
then click on DETAILED setup then click on THRUST, you can then change a variety of setting I just increase the THRUST TO WEIGHT RATIO.

Standard is normally 1.0

My off the planet glider has a thrust ratuio of 5.0.

That gives me over 450kph.

You can experiment with a plethora of settings.
I write down changes I make and if I dont like them I reset default and then punch back in the setting that have made the aircraft more to my liking.

But with that said I agree with Steve, something is not right in you program. All my aircraft fly very realistically straight out of the box.

Happy flying

Ok stopped for the night at motel in Glen Innes.
Had a play of Phoenix on the laptop.
All going ok even the T28 and Habu going much better.
Can someone try something for me please?
Will you select the F16(Turbine) under the scale models and
let me know how you find that one.
I know you don't have any experience of flying turbines but I
believe that this should fly a lot faster than a T28 or Habu.
This is perhaps the most noticeable model where I reckon the speed is way out.
If you blokes find it flies very fast then I do have some issue with my setup
thanks

Hi Paul

Fast as compared to what ?

I had a fly of the F16 and would agree that it is a pretty docile aircraft but I think it flies OK. I dont have Real flight so I cant compare.

But as I said before, crank up the power to weight ratio and you can make anything go like a shot dog.

It might be that the Real flight simulations are considerably quicker than Pheonix and you are just used to it.
