Farewell to the F-111...
#1

...being retired from active duty today. Although I have seen the F-111 many many times up close and personal, I've never photographed it in a decent manner so I'll leave you with links to a tribute on another forum I go to, OCAU:

G'day Kieran,
Have saved some of these fantastic F-111 pictures.By the looks of it one would not say that they have been in service for so many years. Great idea of yours to publish on website.
Also have changed my desktop to suit.....definitely more exciting now!!!

For something much much much further down the track, but something I had already been thinking about. Maybe something to talk about at the field with a master craftsman, but would be interested in the logistical efforts and parts required to build an F-111. I had been thinking of a turbine version of one (like i said much much much further down the track).
Just wanting to get my head around the concept. One of my all time favourite jets along with the F4-Phantoms. Just been reading the old threads and came across this, and thought one of the edf guys might be able to give a hand, and let me know what building skills would be handy to learn for even considering a project like this

I believe our "friends" at Xtremehobby are working on a twin 70mm edf version.

It will be exxy as there isn't much of a target audience.

Swing wings & their flying characteristics are notoriously hard to engineer in model scale but progress is being made all the time. There are a few one offs but no kits.

Interesting read: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=17170793&postcount=68

Its only last year or so that the jet jockeys were dropping 20k plus to get swing wing F-14's in to the air and they're infinitely more popular than the Pig's.

We had one at Temora last year and the owner still wasn't comfortable retracting the wings in flight:

This is some of the engineering in the smaller one:

F-4 Phantom...
Whilst beautiful looking, are probably the model most likely to be written off at a jet meet, I've seen more of them go in than any other model!

Suspicions have been confirmed.... that sucks.... oh well.... can see what happens as time goes by and see how good/bad my skills become at building things down the track.
Love the F4, not sure I'd be happy seeing one written off though!!
Might check out xtremehobbies
