Suggested Motor, ESC & Prop Sizing
#1

Hi Scott,
I understand from your grandfather that you are looking at converting an IC engine trainer that is about 40 size to electric power.
My Phoenix Classic EP trainer uses a 45 amp ESC with a Himark 3526 830kV motor on a 3S 3200mAh battery spinning a 11 X 8.5 APC propeller.
The flying weight of this model is about 2.0kg and wingspan of 1420mm.

My suggested equivalent setup from HobbyKing would be:
ESC - Turnigy Plush 60 Amp
Motor - Turnigy 35-48-C 800kV Brushless Outrunner
Battery - 3S 3000mAh to 4000mAh 25C minimum (when used as a trainer) or 4S 3000mAh to 4000mAh 30C (when thinking of sport flying)
Prop - APC 11 x 8.5 or 11 x 7 (trainer, ie. 3S battery) or 10 x 7 (sport, ie. 4S battery)

I hope this helps you with your decision of what to fit into your new plane.

Cheers
Chris M

Chris's advise is spot on.. nothing more for me to add...( unless your flying weight is alot heavier or you want the plane to fly at 150kph + with unlimited vertical. )
