hey guys,
are any of you using any other type of battery connectors other than deans? I'm not really a fan of deans, they sometimes hard to pull apart and when you solder them there isn't much tab area and the plastic insulator sometimes melts. Any of you using any crimp connectors or other types of solder ones? If so, are you getting them locally or HK?

I use bullet connectors supplied with interconnected covers.
I have never been a fan of Deans connectors either.
The bullets are a breeze to solder, you just slide the plastic shrould over the wires, hold the connector vertical in a pair of vice grips or something similar then heat the connector and 3/4 fill the end pot with solder. Once you have done that you simply get your pre striped wire, heat the bullet connector to re melt the solder then push the wire into the end of the molten pool, remove the heat and hold still for a few seconds.
Once you have soldered both male and female connectors you slide the plug cover down the wire until it clicks and locks in place.( If you get a liitle solder on the outside of the connector yo need to remove it with a small file, otherwise the connectors will foul on the plug covers while trying to lock them in place.
I use 3.5mm for batterys up to 3S and 4mm for batteries up to 6S.
They also carry much higher current that deans and are much easier to install.

I'm using XT60's which is the yellow connector that HobbyKing ships with most their batteries now. They're a bit easier to solder than deans if the wire is thin.

I use XT60's too I find them much better than deans

You can make an adapter - I have because I didn't want to change all my dean plugs including the battery charger contacts

I also use the XT60 with the dean soldered on the back so the new Hobbyking batteries do not have to be touched.

I wouldn't mind seeing what you have done. I've just got 2 new batteries from HK and just working up the courage to solder some deans to then but if i can rig up an adapter that might be a better option

No worries can show you and you can try yourself , or maybe make a pair for you & you can replace the Deans & XT60 plugs I used.

Just something else to consider,
The larger batteries ie. 2650mah 4cell and above, have HXT connectors
not XT60. Once you get to the thicker cables the XT60's are a bit too small.
In saying that however I still use XT60's and make sure that the shrinkwrap
insulation is firmly attached.
