Archive: Flying this Weekend...

Shame about the damage - but you should'nt be offering it for sale.
At least ask for more than 2 dollars! (Check Photo)

Hi Guys,
I won't be flying this W/E as I'm off to Temora for the last fly day for the year.
I'll let you know how sweet the Merlins in the 2 Spits & P51 sound when I return, not to mention the roar of the Sabre.
Anyhow lets all have a good one.

Cheers
Chris M

Hmm - a P-51 this time eh Chris? I've not seen one in my two trips to Temora so far, well done. I like the Boomerang and the Kittyhawk a lot too.
Have a great trip and look forward to hearing about it next weekend then.

Down at the field now, nice and calm. Bring Aerogard though, flies are going bonkers!

I wont be over today - having a family weekend and envoying the sunshine. Seeya at the Christmas BBQ.

Pat has to use my car to take him to a birthday party and may bring him
down to the field when it finishes.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow and hoping to flatten 4 batteries without incident. I've got to master this take-off and landing bit so I can be less of an impact on other's flying time.

It turns out that I'll have the whole tribe with me which is good and bad. They'll probably disappear for a bit of the morning so the kids don't get too bored. I will need my best wings on for when they come back to show them my plane does actually fly Smile. It would be sad for the day they visit to be the one where I ditch on my first flight Frown .

Also got a special toy I built with Oscar that he is busting to fire up in some open space.

I'll bring my fleet down for show and tell although a couple of them aren't in a state to fly.

I'm not likely to make it down this weekend, I have Carols on Saturday & Sunday, In fact Saturday evening's Carols are one of the largest in town and if you only take to family to one a year, come to ours! I'm doing the sound, wifey will be singing with her family/band and her choir will be at it as well. Fun for all! If you can't make it, be sure to tune in to the simulcast on 99.9fm!

I had an absolute ball at the field today!!! Biggrin
I ran out of batteries, did great take-offs and several very nice landings (6 or more of each). The weather was excellent and the bright sun and heat scared most people off early so srl and I had the air to ourselves Smile .
Many thanks to Chris for hanging around and assisting in my flights and locking up after us.

One minor downside that I hope one of you more local the field might be able to help me with. I think I left a 7AH SLA brick where I parked my car. When I got home and unpacked, I couldn't find it and I don't think I left it in the middle of the field. If you have the opportunity to pass the field, I would appreciate a look and if it is there, grab it and return it next year.

Today was my last fly forthe year and an excellent way to finish off. I hope you all have a great Christmas and I look forward to seeing you on the field next year (bring on those bronze wings! 8-) )

Down at the field now. Despite the rain it is nice and solid and will dry well today. If you don't make it down today, it should be good for flying tomorrow if there is no more continuous rain. Will be down till around 9:30- 10:00

Weather forecast for tomorrow (Sunday) is for possible light morning shower & light SW to SE winds & cloudy - sounds promising for flying.
Very Happy with flying today - my Skyartec Cessna 182 was maidened with help from Chris & is a nice flier & a lot of fun. Made a couple of solo flights with it but unfortunately landed a bit hard on the last landing & bent the Prop Shaft slightly. Quality of the included brushless might be questionable. Have made plenty of belly landings with my Lark & it's Tunigy motor & the shaft is still straight. Will try & straighten it but I might order a new equivalent motor just in case.
Will try to get down to the field tomorrow late morning for a short stay.
I'm on Holidays for 4 weeks starting today so hope to do plenty of flying including some week days.

Gday Drew

Sorry for the late reply, I have had internet issues, no did not find anything at the field.
Cheers

I'm assuming that few if anyone would have ventured down to the field this morning in these soggy conditions.
Tomorrow's looking about the same. Clearing rain on Monday - which is a public Holiday - does that mean people will be going down to the field (weather permitting) as if it were the weekend?

I'm hoping to be down the field on Monday weather permitting.

Hi All,
Trust you have all had a good Christmas and a relaxing Boxing day and that Santa has been good to you.

If the weather is favourable tomorrow morning I will be down at the field from about 8-30am for a few hours, hopefully it won't be too wet and we can drive in without churning up the grass.

See you all soon.

Gday All

Hope you all had a great xmas and Santa's gifts were all LiPo powered.
Not too sure about the weather today! I am going to focus on the "easing later" bit.
Rain has been constant and heavy at times here at Toongabbie from early this morning so the field may be a bit of a swamp now?

TAF SUMMARY:
A LOW PRESSURE TROUGH EXTENDS OVER INLAND NSW WITH ANOTHER TROUGH
SITUATED ALONG THE NSW COAST. THE TROUGH ALONG THE COAST IS
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MOIST SOUTHERLY WINDS AND WILL DEEPEN DURING THE
DAY CAUSING THE WINDS TO FRESHEN. WIDESPREAD RAIN CAN BE EXPECTED
THROUGHOUT THE DAY WITH SOME BREAKS DEVELOPING DURING THE AFTERNOON.
SOME THUNDERSTORMS ARE AGAIN EXPECTED ALONG THE RANGES TO THE WEST
BUT THEY WILL NOT AFFECT THE AIRPORT.

THUNDERSTORM POTENTIAL:
SLIGHT CHANCE WITHIN 20NM SYDNEY AIRPORT.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
10% CHANCE HEAVY RAIN CONTINUES AFTER 06Z TODAY.
10% CHANCE OF A THUNDERSTORM IN THE AREA UNTIL 12Z.

Looks like the bulk of the rain has passed (looking at the Rain Radar at 9:30am), but as Rob mentioned, the field is probably a swamp, even if the rain does stop.

I'll head down to the field Friday morning (Public Holiday) around 8 - 8:30am for a couple of hours.
Hope to see you there and all the best for the New Year!
Phase 2 of building shelves/benches in my garage this week so I only managed 1 midweek fly this week (Tuesday), but it was good to see Ingo & Rob there as well - though the wind caused some carnage (the sound of snapping Styrofoam echoed across the field!)

Hi,

Just checking if anyone is flying this afternoon (Jan 1 - Fresh start for 2010!!!). I think it will rain tomorrow. So, want to fly today while weather permits.

It's pretty windy over there now Colin - I couldn't really estimate the wind-speed, but it would make flying difficult. I'm going to give it a miss for today.
All the best,
Steve

Steve Murray

Steve and I dropped in mid morning and were surprised to find the gates closed!

Walked in and had the field to ourselves for a couple of hours. Steve got plenty of grins from his new Christmas present and I tested my skills in the wind, eventually being brave enough to try a couple of loops and a roll (first timem for the roll).

We both exhausted our batteries after a great flying session and escaped just before therain came in Biggrin . Overall, a wonderful start to the year.
