Thats a bugger Bob...

Hi guys. Here is a you tube video of painless360 using a Windows tablet to program quads using several of the most common programs. I guess this would be good to take down to the field to make adjustments to the quads controller?, Not sure how effective but anyhow it looks promising.

Interestingly I have had a Teclast x98 Air 3g for a year now. It dual boots Windows 10 and Android 5.

Personally I gave up on Windows 10 on a tablet as Android was SO much better but I did briefly use it for programming my quad at the field under Android using EzyGUI.

However I also have an old laptop that I put an SSD in and even though that is bigger it is much easier to use so I use that instead. A second hand laptop is not much these days and with a new battery (and SSD if feeling flush) it is about the same price.

Hi Simon. Yes I think the idea of the a cheap laptop running windows seven is the way to go a question what is SSD .

Hi Steve. Very interesting. However having a look at some of the photograph and you tube videos how strong is the body will it stand up to the normal wear and tear on a quad and also as I’ve already mentioned with any quad you buy you need plenty of spare parts because generally you need them anyway I’m really interested in seeing it flying at the field.

I agree with Simon (the other Simon!) - a cheap laptop is a better option as they are tougher. Having said that, I use a Microsoft Surface Pro in the field, which is a tablet, but that's only because I already had it.

If I was going to get a Windows device specifically for in-field use, I'd go for a cheap or second-hand laptop with SSD as they are more durable and are sealed when closed. The use of SSD's increases battery life too.

The main benefit of a tablet is that they typically have better battery life but that's not so much the case these days. My Lenovo Carbon X1 laptop gets about 70% of the battery life as my Surface Pro tablet.

Hmmm... i have no problem with a 2nd hand laptop for in the field, even a 5yo one will still do the quad tuning you need, rugged and cheap so can get chucked in the back of a car. My only concern for buying second hand is that the idea is for it to work IN the field, and a secondhand laptop battery is usually stuffed, getting an hour of usage on battery is a good day. If buying second hand, add the cost of a new battery, it's for the field, it needs to run in the field.

If your spending $300 on a second hand laptop, you could buy a small Atom based machine NEW from JB for under that, its not as powerful, not a big screen, but is compact, has warranty and would run your Librepilot fine. eg https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tabl...ed/856602/

Just another thought.

I totally agree Rob.

Unless you're savvy enough to source a replacement battery and support the machine yourself when the inevitable issues come about, you're better off with a cheap netbook type of device like you've stated. With warranty and all that comes with it.

Hi guys. This Eachine is becoming a total pain first it took forever to get here now I’m having problems with finding batteries that fit. Now try to load the software and this message appeared }GCS and firmware versions of the UAV objects set do not match which can cause • \ configuration problems{ when I tried to load manually still would not work not sure what the problem is maybe someone can advise me .

Bob, That means it needs a firmware upgrade. Use LibrePilot instead of OpenPilot.

Just start the wizard and it will take care of it for you, it really is simple, don't try and do things manually.

It does that by design, there's nothing wrong with it whatsoever. It is just telling you that the firmware on the CC3D needs to be upgraded which it will take care of, if only you run the wizard.

Hi Bob,

First thing I did was reloading the board with Librepilot, as Simon suggests. I had no problems setting it up after that. Let me know if you need help with it.

If you don't live on the edge, you take up too much space.

HI, dirk. As I said to Simon I completed the Wizard up to where it sent me to the radio settings that’s where I’m now confused so not sure what to do next???. Somebody down the field on Saturday or Sunday has a laptop with libre pilot might be able to get them to help me saw at the final section.

Hi Jason and follow FPV. I’ve got a problem with the runcam camera. The little controller that you plug into the back of the camera so you can access the menu is not working at said fraud tiny little bit, before anybody asks the lead only plugs into the camera one way I was wondering if there is an alternative controller that you could use instead of this fiddly little thing, otherwise it is really an uphill battle to adjusts the camera hoping someone can help.

Hi, guys. The quantum V2 gobbles upgrade kit with the improved lenses. Is at the moment $14.09 on the Australian warehouse so if you want one maybe it is the time to grab one.

Hi Bob i found the default settings for the run cam fpv camera were fine
I have a controller if you want to change them ill bring it down to the field and we can have a go if you want but im not surebwhat you need to change

Hi, Jason. Thanks very much what is happening is the controller that come with a camera will won’t work I can press and press the button and nothing happens but on rare occasions it will work once but not any more after a lot of pressing I was able to get the lens to switch to manual but that’s as far as I’ve got the plug can only go in one way so not sure. A question the quantum gobble monitor is in a Powell or NTSC system, the picture from my skyzone 700 D monitor seems to be a lot better than the one in the quantum goggles, both the sky zone monitor and camera are both Powell systems not sure if that would explain poorer picture or not.

Hello Bob, I have a controller that may fit the runcam, I purchased it by mistake a while ago. Just out of curiosity, does it look like a circuit board with 4-5 buttons on it?

HI, Todd. Thanks very much I could possibly try the device that came with a camera I think is called a four way toggle switch and is quite small?, Maybe that’s part of the reason it is not working properly As I said in my post doesn’t want to work very well at all I would post a photograph but I’m not sure how to do that so may be next time weather permitting I could try it as well .

Hi guys. Can’t remember who?, But somebody told me that there is some cheap taranis receivers that they were buying, how have you found them?.

Update, it was Robbo.
Reply

well... I had one go at updating the firmware but no success, just seems dead... I might've stuffed it up, there is a whole bunch of wires to connect (quite fiddly). Stupidly I didnt try it with the factory firmware, before I pulled it apart to update, it might still work need to go back to it.

NOTE- if you want to try these, make sure you investigate and are comfortable with the update process, you will need to get quite technical, need some extra bits... there are some Youtube videos on how its done.

These are from Banggood and receivers supporting FRSKY protocols... There is a long thread on rcgroups... I think there is some scope here to use them for cheap models, not sure I would put them in anything you really value, until really sure of them. if they work and updated easily (not my experience) not bad for $15 (akin to an orange receiver for spektrum)

Hi guys. I had a bit of a problem putting a new receiver in my Eachine the reason why I changed over was the receiver in it was to big I’m blind it to my Taranis with no problems than I opened libre pilot to set up the radio and refused to work at all after I called the little bit of the remaining hair that I have, I found the earth wire on the plug that plugs into the transmitter channel 1 was broken lucky had a wire set off an old CC3D that I’d bought quite a while ago mostly to muck around with, the problem is that wire is very flimsy and will be very prone to break very easily I put a little bit of tape around it very gently.
Reply

Its really hard to put tape those small wire... maybe heatshrink or encase in hot glue.

Hi Rob. I had a real good look at the harness this morning what has happened around the wire harness through where gap at the top of the frame and down to where it plugs in to the CC3D board and apparently it rubbed up again the FPV transmitter as well is been hot there is a very sharp edge so that’s what happened exactly.

Now fixing the problem once and for all I got a by a new hot glue gun as the one have is had it so once I get the new one as Simon suggested I put a little bit of glue on the terminal and I am Garner in case the harness and a little bit of shrink tubing one question this shrink tubing is fairly large and if I use hair dryer to shrink the tubing will damage the cable?, All just have to go very carefully I suspect.

Now Rob and dirk who have also got Eachine?. Make sure you do not fall into the same trap I did or so can contact banggood via email to see if they’ve got any wire harnesses.
