Phoenix online sessions
#31

yeah dad my impressions of pheonix since installing is that the helis seem to feel slightly better (perhaps harder) than realflight but the fixed wing physics doesnt feel as good as realflight, i need to fly it abit more to be sure but yeah i played around alot to get a realistic feeling of speed on pheonix and also the stall characteristics dont feel right on pheonix to me, ill try some more prop planes but yeah all jets ive tried so far are yuck.. will be working on getting it better set up tho.
i love flying at our field tho Smile

perhaps a couple of the collision boxes feel a touch to close on high speed passes as opposed to real life i feel i have a longer period of time sweeping through from right to left before you hit building walls and trees, likewise the big tree on right feels a touch close to me, but that may just be me.. but its awesome having our field i reckon thanks heaps for the work you have done mick Smile

EDIT: after more use i believe im wrong they feel much better now, forget my comments Smile

also, in my opinion if you change the thrust ratio to 2.5 and set throttle to go to 125% it feels similar to habu on 5cell 3300mah. flight times need to be kept to 3.20 landed at WOT for realistic flights at field, or maybe push to 4 mins landed if ur really flying slow, 1.5 thrust and 125% throttle to simulate stock habu with 4c 3600mah.
also t28 at thrust 4 to simulate 36-42 1250kv turnigy 4 cell Smile
t28 thrust 3 to simulate 35-36 1100kv turnigy on 4cell Smile
just some points for fun Smile
also dad want to get some more planes can you get turbines, big warbirds and bombers like in realflight?

thanks for that info kev.
I believe to get additional planes in phoenix you
have to request them and wait while phoenix creates them.
They then come down as an update.

Good work Kev - this is the sort of stuff that only a few of you blokes know about, and it helps the rest of us a great deal.
I guess Paul passed on that MG servo for your PC-9?
Off to Blacktown tomorrow - maybe see you there?

Sorry to hear that Kev, you'd have absolutely loved it - your PC-9 would have really enjoyed the extra space. Never mind mate ... next time.
Meanwhile, have a couple of JD's and see if that helps with the throat!

Hi Guys,

I managed to get on the session last night with Peter & Chris.
Had a few problems I will have to check - the video card had an issue & I had to reboot a couple of times - went into a crazy mode - looked like EGA.
Has anybody else had this issue?
I shall try setting up on my laptop tonight - bigger video card 1GHz.
Also has anybody used the microphone? Would be nice to see that work properly also.
Managed to set it up on my spare 36MHz MAX66 transmitter - works fine.
A very enjoyable experience though.

Hi Ingo,
Yes the mic works great.
Kev and I have had 3 sessions using them and never a problem.
I could not make it last night but was online for about 3 hours on both Monday and Tuesday
nights. Must say, I was surprised that no-one else joined us those nights.
Thought inline flying would be more popular than that.
I posted an invite to fly on Tuesday night and only 1 other person bothered to answer.
Unfortunately he could not make it then.
Sounds like you could be having graphic card problems and the laptop idea will confirm if this is the case.
Hope to see more people online soon as I reckon it's great and with a mic it
make it just like we are standing down the field. Smile

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the anwers & your comments.

Now it's up & running I wouls definitely like to join you guys when next session comes up.

I agree the mic would be fantastic - sure beets typing.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Dingy.

Oh by the way Paul, I've sorted that problem you were having with Realflight after crashing.

Boot up with dongel installed - not transmitter - connect transmitter - crash - pull plug out of transmitter & reinsert.

The transmitter has now been validated & the note about the "Reset Button" goes away.

Works for me!

it seems there is a bandwidth issue when more than two ppl are flying, im not sure what connections ppl are using from home but i recommend that the user with the highest upload should host where possible, i would think adsl 2 with a 1 meg upload is the minimum for multiple user sessions.
out of curiosity what is your upload andrew? im just trying to get an idea of whether the problems tonight were because of you limited bandwidth or whether you have the full 1 meg and we still had problems?

yeah ppl seem to drop when more come in, then it leaves you in a room with some and not others or by yourself , at times you think you are alone and others still see you in their session its kind of weird, im now thinking perhaps the voice chat is too much for our connections when there are alot of ppl , im not sure just brainstorming
i did see you and flew with ya for a minute but i left and rejoined and was back in room with dad and then you were gone , lol its weird stuff

yea I was flying around for a long time with about 6 people
but think I was the only one talking.
Suddenly everyone dropped out a phoenix crashed.
I came straight back on and I was the only one online everyone else
had disapeared.
Then kev came back online and we flew with no problems talking to each other.
Steve came on and he had a few problems so we disabled the voice chat and we 3
then flew no problems until about 11pm.
Think voice chat no good if more than 2 or 3 people.

Hi Paul,

I tried for several occassions to fly - lasted a couple of minutes & program crashed - video went hay wire.

Looking for a new (updated driver) Nvidia FX5600XT Card.

No issues when flying alone BUT in a session I experienced problems.

Loaded Phoenix onto my laptop will give that a go - hope I can resolve it.

Remember Dave saying he also had problems with video crashing & it was a Nvidia Card.

Before crashing the program I tries to chat using the Mic did you hear me?

Looking for fixes as we write

when we had more than 3 people on line
the voice chat became garbled and very hard to hear.
I believe that I did hear you Ingo but not clearly and very intermittently.
You may be correct about your grahic card. I'm using a NVida GeForce 8800 GT card
with I 512mb onboard memory.
After Dave said that he needed to update his driver I did the same but have not
noticed any real difference as it was going ok before then anyway.
It's very stable with Phoenix running, only time that I notice anything is when another person
online with me changes the flying field without telling me before hand (Kev).Smile
If you still have trouble after installing the new driver you can try reducing the graphics quality
a little that might help.

Kev, I have ADSL2+ but don't know my bandwidth. Everything was fine with 3 flying, then a 4th joined & Phoenix crashed. Everytime I tried to rejoin the session with that same person on, mine crashed even though there were only 2 plus me at those times. Weird.

Hi Ingo,

I am sure there is only one file and therefore we are all using the same version. I know there are intentions to take the file set forward with more improvements but I think a newer version hasn't yet been distributed to the virtual flyers.

Wonder if this would happen if we flew on a Phoenix supplied field.

Hi Ingo,

My problem some time back was with my video driver not coping with the workload. When I crashed out, my whole computer went off then started again. I believe your experience is just Phoenix turning itself off. If your computer is crashing, try updating your video driver. If it is Phoenix alone, I am not sure what is happening.
