That is the best your going to get at that price bracket, I've had one since March and its served me very well thus far. Has a stack of features like USB logging and temp sensors.

If you look at the more expensive iMax range you'll see they're all essentially the same charger with minor chassis difference but I believe the firmwares are all identical.

thanks kieren that was exactly the response i was hoping for.. i want a charger that has a few features and abit of flexibility to charge a variety of diff batt configurations and watt not(scuse pun) to support the easy sport on 6s the 1/18th brushless truggy im buying 2morrow on 3s and (hopefully) the parkzone corsair .. Smile

in saying that with all the outlay ive got at the moment re arranging my hobby's (toys) i am liking this turnigy's price tag.
cheers.. Wink

Any thoughts on this charger...

Its a chinese no-brand, so some risk, but seems good value, especially if 200w/10A per circuit. I am finding that the little 50w/6A charger I have got only pushes 4.3A or less depending on 3S or 4S, and if using parallel board with few batteries... takes a bit of time. What do people use for most charging, a single 'grunty' charger and parallel board or a few smaller chargers...

So many chargers rely on external DC power supplys, anyone played around with hacking one from a computer or other source?

iCharger 206B is not much more expensive, and the iCharger line is generally considered the best brand until you get into the likes of the Revolectrix PL6 and PL8. The one from BG may be dual-channel, but each channel is 10A max, which is actually rather limiting. If you wanted to charge 6x 2200mAh 3S on a paraboard, that would require 13.2A for a 1C charge rate, so the BG charger cannot even sustain 1C unless both channels are leveraged.

Dual-channel capability is nice, but in practice it also increases the likelihood of mistakes, and for most people it's a rare thing to have two separate paraboards going at the same time. One beefy charger is thus better for most purposes than two medium-strength units.

If it's within the budget, I'd certainly recommend an iCharger 206B, or even a 308 (30A 8S) if you don't mind spending a bit more.

Server power supplies can be bought relatively cheaply, but they tend to be loud as all hell, and tricky to actually turn on (without a server!). Also, the cheaper one won't have PFC, which means they are inefficient at lower power levels. Some of the workstation (ATX) supplies are now in the 750W range, but they're not single rail. It takes fiddling to get the supposed ~65A out of them.

There's a Revo power supply sold by HK and Revo which is made up of 2x Dell server PSUs. Feathermerchant sells 24V combos as well:

At the upper end of the price range ($AU1K) are the ProgressiveRC cases:

For me, batteries and chargers are like a hobby-within-a-hobby Smile
