RE: Field Condition... - Skidz - 21-07-2011

I want to see the Deuce maiden so I am keen to go PEMAC next weekend as a "visitor". This weekend will be mCPx time. At least it won't put the family pets in the vet in the case of any mishap! Would have joined you Sunday Chris except I have a business visitor out from UK. Might do some tourist type things. Can't have him go back reporting he went to some place called PEMAC... or could I?

RE: Field Condition... - gbanger - 21-07-2011

Hey John
As I said before, you are welcome to borrow my DX6i until your radio returns from its holiday. Even if you only programme in one of your aircraft, at least you can fly.... You will have to rebind all your aircraft when your radio comes home....just to be on the safe side!

Dave
I will let you know when I am going to maiden the DW. It will probably be the 30th or 31st and more than likely at PEMAC.

Thanks for the offer Gary. I'll get an update on repairs and get back to you. Aside from the weather, the timing is actually good as I also have a lot of work around the house to do in preparation for selling (moving to Cherrybrook - further from the field -what am I thinking?) But like most of us, need to get back into the flying soon.

RE: Field Condition... - samste - 22-07-2011

Quickly dropped by at field.
Mobile snap and upload.

RE: Field Condition... - paulj - 22-07-2011

Depressing sight..................Frown

RE: Field Condition... - dingy - 22-07-2011

Row, Row, Row your boat - wonder what rubbish will be left behind?

RE: Field Condition... - helijeli - 22-07-2011

And I just got back my DX7 today! Actually it's morphed into a DX7se. OMP couldn't repair mine - they changed the board but the error persisted so they gave me another Radio, a later version I gather. I'll have to check what the specification differences are. Noticed a couple of switches in different places with Heli references. I thought they were taking a while but it's good that they just gave me another Radio instead of delaying further. I don't think they even charged me for it (or return postage) as the paperwork said $0. Giving it a good charge but not sure if I want to risk turning it on with my dodgy battery that caused this in the first place. Might check if my replacement Li-fe battery has landed yet (Kieran?).
...and my wife's comment - "but you won't have time for your planes anyway. You've got all the work around the house to do" (for the House Sale). If it's not the weather or broken equipment, it's ....... !!!! (she's right though - house goes on the market in a couple of weeks and so many things to fix - I said to her... that's the whole point of moving because I don't want to fix them!

RE: Field Condition... - gbanger - 22-07-2011

Glad you finally got your radio back John, will see you down at the field soon.................. as soon as the weather breaks.(Fingers and toes crossed)

RE: Field Condition... - sglnichols - 23-07-2011

if it's not too windy then im gonna give my coota float plane a go at the field........better take my waders as i'ver never tried flying off the water before..........might cheat and hand launch and then land on water!

RE: Field Condition... - smuzz - 26-07-2011

I walked around the field today to see how it was going - there are pools of water on the runways of course and in other patches around the place. There has also been a quad-bike visit, but the wide tyres don't seem to have left deep tracks so it's not too bad.

Overall - if the rain forecast for tomorrow holds off, then it just might recover in time for the weekend but we'll need our luck to improve a bit on recent form.

RE: Field Condition... - ~KevJ~ - 26-07-2011

fingers crossed i need a fly Smile

RE: Field Condition... - Claudius - 26-07-2011

Thanks for the update Steve.

RE: Field Condition... - dingy - 26-07-2011

Thanks Steve, appreciated.

RE: Field Condition... - gbanger - 26-07-2011

If its not raining on Saturday, I'm flying, but our field will need to recover for another week at least before it can cope with medium to large aircraft... and I plan on maidening my Deuces Wild this weekend... so I will be heading out to our sister club for some seriously overdue air time.
If anyone with larger aircraft would like to join me I am happy to sign you in.
Gazz

RE: Field Condition... - paulj - 27-07-2011

Bummer, wish someone would catch a few of these hoods.
Maybe if a few were clipped over the ear and then thrown to the cops
we would get rid of a few.
Mindless idiots. Frown

Are you taking a shovel with you Gary? I believe there is several tons of earth arriving at PEMAC for the weekend working bee. The material is to fill in the hole in the runway.

RE: Field Condition... - gbanger - 27-07-2011

Yes I am Kev and a rake!

RE: Field Condition... - samste - 28-07-2011

maiden my Bixler!!BiggrinBiggrinBiggrin

RE: Field Condition... - secant0give - 29-07-2011

I have a couple of things with out wheels that need to be flown
so I hope to be down there on the weekend as well probably tomorrow

RE: Field Condition... - dingy - 29-07-2011

Looks like a chuck-a-thon weekend guys.

Bring what you can - what goes up must always come down - hope it stays up for a little while though.

One good thing the ground will be soft - yuck!

Bring plenty of rags to wipe your chuckas.

RE: Field Condition... - smuzz - 29-07-2011

Bob commented in another thread on the state of the field and he's right on the money with respect to the main strip - there are still two reasonably small pools of water on the main runway which would be a problem to touch-down in.

The cross-strip is fine though and landings on that approaching from the south-west would be alright. If tomorrow is anything like today there'll be no wind at all, so we'll be able to take our pick of take-off and landing directions. Using an undercarriage on the cross-strip would not be a problem.

The ramp looked safe enough to make driving in possible again. It certainly wasn't slippery to walk on today.

As Ingo has suggested, some soft cloth to wipe down the undersides might be a good idea.

RE: Field Condition... - samste - 30-07-2011

Popped down yesterday afternoon for an hour or so... left with batteries to spare because (being dressed for winter) I was frying out there. This is winter, right? Shock

Field has continued to dry out. A definite improvement since the weekend, but (surprisingly) still the usual last couple hold-outs of notable "squishiness".

I suspect even a light shower will still significantly degrade the main strip, but if the weather holds, will be better yet for the weekend.

RE: Field Condition... - dingy - 04-08-2011

Thanks Claudius,

Lookin' forward to Saturday - up up & away!!!!!

RE: Field Condition... - paulj - 04-08-2011

Yea I noticed on Tuesday that main strip was still pretty soft
a few times my wheels sank into the ground and I had trouble taxiing.
Weather has been great since then so hopefully all ok on Saturday

RE: Field Condition... - gbanger - 04-08-2011

I stopped by the field this afternoon to burn a few Trojan batteries that needed a work out.
I have not seen the strip since I mowed it 3 weeks ago. The grass on the main strip has certainly enjoyed the deluge. It will be OK for the weekend, but as previously stated but ONLY JUST, it is still very soggy on the bottom or southern side of the runway and still needs another week of warm rain free weather to recover, but it is getting there.
It needs another mow sooner rather than later as the temperate weather and precipitation have got the green stuff in overdrive.
The cross strip, taxiway and pit area are sweet.
I walked it today but the drop off on the drive is still very damp and won't cope with a lot of traffic.
Hope the big white ball gives it another baking tomorrow.
See you all Saturday
