3d aerobatics -

Some may have noticed out-of-control panes on the field that result from my efforts and struggles with 3d aerobatics. I got started with 3d after looking at some vids by Michael Wargo.

Its true I have not made a lot of progress but its great fun.
However I have now found a website with tutorials that I think are much better if not fantastic.
http://www.wild-wings.co.uk/
Check out the hover (in UK English its called prophang)
http://www.wild-wings.co.uk/tutorial.php?vimeoID=134232130
I have not yet seen all the tutorials but in them there is an emphasis on practice, including getting a foam shockie (UK for cheap profile plane), and using a simulator. The hover and rolling harrier are more complex than I had realised and may take many hours (in my case read years) of practice to perform as demonstrated on the wild-wings vid. Another point is that the standard aerobatic manoeuvres need to be performed very well as a prelude to undertaking 3d manoeuvres.

Its finished and flying. Very happy with the result, 94grams with batteries.
Here's a short youtube after I remembered to turn the camera on. Our yard is a lot smaller than it looks here.

I really like this plane, its fantastic to make it at under 100 gm, my lightest 3d is > 200 gm. I am still trying to work out how you did it, is it your own design? Is that some sort of computer controlled saw in the photo that cut everything from 1 sheet of a special board? How was the covering applied? I am impressed that it does not need lots of spars supporting the wings and tailplane like most indoor 3d models.
I have been exercising with several 3ds in local parks at daybreak, with locations moving ever closer to home as the lockdown tightens. I am working a new model, the HK Ripples, and it turns out to be above expectations in terms of lightness and stiffness of wings and tail surfaces.

Hi Greg
It's the Index3 , plans are on RCgroups under F3P indoor planes. Milled and cut from 3mm Depron.
More old infomation in my RCgoups blog here-
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=143683
I will update info on the build( and it is a build)as more modern stuff is now available now such as EMAX servos and small BLheli-32 ESC's.
I still have a few allready cut sheets from free to $30 if your interested when the lockdown lifts. The problem is getting to be batterys as HobbyKing selling less stock. It takes a 300mah 2cell.

To save $$$, I guess get a good simulator. Real Flight is one of the best. It has all the settings of a real airplane or helicopter. It can become techncial though to tweek the configuration. But at lease they provided the settigns of a real RC Plane or Heli. Buy the version with a USB dongle that you bind to your radio so you don't have the cable dangling around while you train. I have an Old Real flight Simulator Version 7.5 with the dongle binded with my TS16S radio. I bought this SIM for only $30 in ebay. Very cheap. If you want the latest version, it cost a fortune. Version 7.5 is good enough for the price.
