Re: Flying this Weekend... - paulj - 08-08-2009

Ground is still rather soft under foot.
After seeing the damage first hand today
I think we would need a heavy roller to flatten the ruts.
Either that, or we need a load of sand to fill them in.
Agree we need to do something to try and prevent this from recurring
but as the Council rangers seem disinterested in trying to catch these people
I don't know what.
Don't think these cowboys would pay any attention to a sign (except probably graffiti it ) Smile

Really enjoyable weekend of flying.
Saturday was quite windy but
today was prefect weather and I'm really starting to enjoy flying the electrofun.
Surprised that there were so few people there over the weekend, guess they must have had more impotent
engagements.
Let's hope this great weather keeps up and we can do it all again next weekend.

Isn't terrible when all you think about is how good flying would be when your busy cooking on a BBQ for at the last game soccer picnic.
I'm Glad you enjoyed yourself Paul.
Looking forward to next weekend catch up and the A-10 going Airborne.

Hey Kev, are you planning on using your wheels or hand launching?

Re: Flying this Weekend... - ~KevJ~ - 12-08-2009

great link kieren.. Smile

it has me thinking... it looked to hand launch easy Smile

Re: Flying this Weekend... - kizza42 - 12-08-2009

As long as you balance her right, either should do. Pros and Cons either way. From this thread:
http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48864

How was today?

Re: Flying this Weekend... - paulj - 12-08-2009

Very gusty wind....but we flew anyway Smile
The EF got buffeted around quite a bit and landing was quite challenging.
At one stage high above my Electrical tower I was blown into a quite involuntary violent double loop and roll
it really was spectacular to see.
I recovered ok but it did give me a bit of a scare at the time.
We also saw our friend on the motorbike again. He was alone and just sitting on his front brake
and cutting up the ground with his rear wheel.
Luckily it was the other side of the creek. Kev decided to take a walk over to have a chat and when
this bloke saw him coming he sped off like a startled hare. Smile
We should watch out for him. He has a blue/white helmet, dark riding gear and what appears to be the
number 11 on his back. He headed off in the direction of Mimosa St on the far side of the field.
We left the field around 2pm and he hadn't come back.
Of course later the afternoon the wind disappeared and probably turned into good flying conditions.

also might be worth noting the bike he was riding was a 4 stroke. :geek:

Re: Flying this Weekend... - samste - 13-08-2009

Very nice I thought that was your Trojan hanging up in your workshop pic.
Control Test looks good a lot of movement on all rudder, elevator, ailerons.
Looking forward to see it get some air time.
I'm hoping too give my A-10 some air time this weekend.

Re: Flying this Weekend... - kizza42 - 14-08-2009

Re: Flying this Weekend... - samste - 14-08-2009

Lucky i have a spare prop Redfaceops:

Practicing some low passes with the funjet as i like watching the kierens Stryker do some.

I got a little Too close to the ground and the prop hit the ground as i pulled up and well how does tumble weed roll ? Well i can tell you that the Funjet gave it a run for its money. Fortunately pretty strong, no real damage to body except for a crease on nose and prop of course.
See you guys down the field tomorrow

Re: Flying this Weekend... - ~KevJ~ - 15-08-2009

ouch , i like those low passes too , im glad the funjet can take the hit , am looking forward to get my hands on one 8-)

Re: Flying this Weekend... - kizza42 - 15-08-2009

Ouch! Unlucky Steve!

Re: Flying this Weekend... - paulj - 15-08-2009

Yea bad luck Steve.
Those Electrical wires are a little bit closer than you think.
At least you got to see yours fly, 2 of mine went into the ground from the hand launch today.
Thank God for epoxy.......... Smile

Paul

Re: Flying this Weekend... - paulj - 15-08-2009

Repairs all complete,
Mustang and F16 ready for next attempt.
Took the opportunity to embed some lead into the nose
of the F16 while it was open. Bit of guesswork on how much but I think
I erred in the side of more than needed.
Hopefully it is enough.
Still think I'll let Darren take her up first though. Smile
Mustang went together without too much trouble, have installed a smaller
prop (9x6) so that may help.

Re: Flying this Weekend... - samste - 16-08-2009

The A-10 flew brilliant All setup power / weight was great.
Flew her for a couple of minutes before disaster happened. and was a lot of fun
Unfortunately while flying i went too close and manage to clip the electricity high voltage tower span wire and it dropped to the ground.
Next Maiden of the A-10 will keep away a bit more from power lines as they are Quite deceiving how close you are to them.
A learning Experience that i will take on board.

Hope you guys have a great day flying Sunday

Re: Flying this Weekend... - robair - 19-08-2009

Gday All

Pretty stoked now I am the new owner of a DX7 however am having trouble binding the bugger, I will try again tonight however may need some help with this one. Stay tuned.

Look forward to seeing you all on the weekend, forecast looks CAVOK.

Cheers
Rob B

Re: Flying this Weekend... - ~KevJ~ - 19-08-2009

hey Rob, great to here about the dx7 mate Wink
post up if the binding is still being stubborn sure we can have that worked out by sat, will see ya down there from 9 on sat weather permitting Smile

*edit: its probably something simple with the binding issue, your bind plug definately in? and throttle all way down?power the rx first with bind plug in then turn on the tx and pull and hold trainer switch...voila Smile i know you would have checked all that already but i missed something simple on first bind (throttle wasnt ALL the way down and she played up on me) cheers good luck Wink

ps. if your having a good old play around with tx be sure to check voltage levels prior to finally using it for first flight, i had mine two weeks playing around with it and then mustered the courage to solo the trojan on the weekend and no sooner was it in the air it started beepeing and i nearly shit myself stressing about landing her, lucky kieren was in my ear saying relax it.. Lol

Re: Flying this Weekend... - kizza42 - 19-08-2009

Congrats Rob! Did you pick up the Darren special?

Re: Flying this Weekend... - samste - 19-08-2009

Re: Flying this Weekend... - kizza42 - 19-08-2009

Its a bit windy around here, wouldn't be fun. Gonna start charging batteries for possible attempt tomorrow though Smile

Re: Flying this Weekend... - samste - 19-08-2009

Thanks for the Update, not that windy here though, probably The wind will pick up though there saying strong winds forecast..
I going to try for tomorrow if i finish work early and weather permitting, . I want to give the A-10 a flight before i go away.
