For the first time in a long time, I get to fly tomorrow morning. Yay Smile

I'll bring an ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) meter with me. It measures the internal resistance of individual cells in a pack, as well as the overall pack resistance. A couple of people have asked me about the hand-written notes on my lipos with "real C" numbers, "FOM", max current, and so on (anally retentive? Me?!?).

The ESR meter can be used to determine whether reality matches what's printed on the label, whether a cell or pack is dying, and even the relative quality of the connector soldering job, if you've got more than one of the same type of lipo to compare.

It only takes a few seconds per pack, and it's totally safe and low-stress for the lipo. Let me know tomorrow if you're interested, and I'll be more than happy to measure your batteries. (I've only got XT60 and JST connectors presently, so we'd need adapters if you use something else.)

Safe landings!

I've had this excellent little airframe in a box for over a year - time to get it in the air.

We haven't had very many (... if any) Alfa models at our field. They're made by a small family-owned concern in the Czech Republic. Typical old-style electric designs, set up for brushed power-trains - they're made of shells of depron (or it looks like depron to me) covered with a plastic skin and painted. The surface is excellent, and it shows small panel lines and offers a really classy light-weight structure - but they're only small models, suitable for calm days and favourable conditions. They've got a whole range of models which we don't see offered by the other producers, if you're into war-birds. Only sold as air-frame kits, they require the builder to do a bit of work - no worries.

Here's their web-site: http://www.alfamodel.cz

The only problem with them is that the construction technique means that they're restricted to being small - say up to 1000mm wingspan. Currently, that's fine for me as I discovered last weekend that my FMS Trojan is a bit too much for me to handle with only one good arm at the moment. Getting it into and out of the car was a hassle.

So, to the Beaufighter - typical of Alfa to make a war-bird which is interesting and yet not offered by many other manufacturers. Here's a photograph of the parts (I don't own this photograph, it's the property of Mike Llewellyn but mine was the same before I started painting it - forgot to get a pic beforehand).

I got mine out and decided to paint it in a scheme which is close (as much as I can get it) to a machine from 455 Sqn RAAF which flew out of Leuchars in Scotland 1942-45, and was charged with anti-shipping operations. Here's a pic of one I found (author unknown, but I don't claim ownership).

I've only airbrushed the underside so far, and it's not a good match in colour for the picture above, but, ... life's short and I cant lose sleep over that.

I'll continue the build over the next couple of weeks and hopefully have a maiden happening before the end of November.

Gazza’s Gotta Make Some Room Sale
I need to get a little ruthless and say goodbye to a few of my aircraft so the new monster will fit in my Hanger.

HK 1400mm Comp, Viper Jet $100 cost $154 SOLD
(new still in box)

Alloy DPS 70mm 10 blade EDF $40 cost $72 SOLD
(new still in box) 6S 2200 kv motor producing 2.3 kg thrust at 1900 watts to suit the Viper.

HK 1800mm Icon A5 Seaplane $140 cost $206 SOLD

This huge seaplane is no longer available from HK and is only 12 months old with less than 20 flights.
HK supply the aircraft fitted with a 6S motor and servos.
I have added flap servos but they are really not necessary as this bird lands very slowly and is a predictable sweet flier. A great aircraft for your first Seaplane.
I am selling it with 2 x 6S 3000mah batteries a Spectrum AR500 reciever and a Turnigy Plush 80 ESC.
I can split it up and remove the ESC and AR500 if necessary.
I love this plane but just don’t fly it enough to keep it.
You will need a big car as the wings are fixed.

700mm Freewing F86 Sabre EDF $10 cost $139 SOLD

It is what it is ….. an expensive plane that I do not like at all. You will need a 3S battery and a receiver and really large balls
If you can fly it …. You can have it….
If you crash it you owe me $10

Eflite UMX SBAC 342 $80 cost $179 SOLD

Only flow half a dozen times, very nimble little 3D flier, can be flown indoors (basket ball court size that is). Comes BNF with charger and 2 x 2S batteries.

I ran this motor in my early PC 9 but was after more grunt so it has been sitting on the shelf for a long while. It still hauls the mail.

Hacker A50-14S $50 Cost $169 SOLD

Kv: 425
Dia: 50mm
Length: 60mm
Shaft: 6mm
Prop hub: 8mm

                                Hi guys,
Simon here, I used to be a member at your club a couple of years ago. Thought I'd share with you some pics from a recent sortie. I was lucky that it was a beaut of a day and that a fellow club mmember had a decent camera with him. Was glad to get some stills as no doubt with my flying skills they will all been in bits one day. For info, the Spit is a Hanger 9 model and the B17 is a HK.
Are you guys still flying at same locations?
Best Regs,
Simon

Yesterday I got to work to finish my replacement Ultimate and here it is finished.

I rushed it down to the field when I finished it Sunday afternoon and put four batteries through it. It was a bit windy.
Next is the Katana mx, may be next weekend.

Have just started my build of this monster.
1st task was hinging the ailerons - no problems.
2nd - instal the aileron servos, push rods & control horns.
Supplied pushrods are 110mm long & I estimate to be 50mm too long (control horn screw hole would be 10mm past the 1/2 way mark of the aileron towards the trailing edge). Are threaded both ends and cant be shortened, I dont possess die sets to shorten & rethread them. I presume Gazz's & Franks are Super & Cheaper models, did both of you have this problem or am I just the unlucky one. If you experienced the same problem, how did you sort the problem. Assistance will be appreciated with thanks.

I no longer have the need for a DeHavilland Gypsy Moth.

This model is about 60 inch wing span & was fitted with an Enya 80, 4 stroke glow engine (removed) although it was designed for a 40 size glow engine. The engine mounted on a Bakelite plate which screws to wooden bearers. You would have to remove the top deck & make a hatch for the battery pack where the fuel tank currently lives.

It was built from a DB Models kit & I have seen an electric conversion done with a geared 700 size brushed motor. It's an easy, slow flyer & very draggy so it can get into & out of small fields. You will have to decide what size electric motor, speedy & battery to fit.

It's fitted with 4 bog standard full size servos (Airtronics/Sanwa, a Japanese brand of similar quality to JR or Futaba) which were new when fitted to this model. It would be easier if they were left in place as the linkages are all established & all I ask is for the new owner to supply me with 4 new similar quality servos (standard JR, Futaba or Hitec.) Let me know if you are interested on 0409 044 724.

Thanks, JohnC.

It's race time at Richmond next weekend

Come along and get amongst it

Even if your not flying it's well worth comming out for an AWSOME days entertainment. If you want to get involved and have a close look at how it runs there's plenty of oppertunities, as Callers are allways needed and so are people to take turns at opperateing the cage. It's a great day and there's usually a super BBQ for a just a coin or two.

There are no noise restrictions at Richmond, the field is on the RAAF base. There will definatly be some spectacular, fast, furious and noisy flying action to be seen !!

If you are flying, make sure your there about 8:30 to register and bring your MAAA card !!

Please email Jeremy and let him know if your flying so he can organise the race order, this saves some time on the day.

Jeremy Randle jag@acfr.usyd.edu.au

See you there !!!

Comon guys bring your FunFighters and wave the the PRCAC Flag !!
