Hi All,
I am a novice to RC Planes and am interested in taking up the hobby.
I had the opportunity last Saturday to attend you field and observe.
I appreciate the welcome I received and the information the members gave me ( I left with information overload).
The experience only intensified my desire to take up the hobby and with permission I would like to attend again.
Thanks to Wayne and Kevin and the rest of the members.

regards,
Chris

Thought I'd put up a couple of pic of how I put together my Racing Rarebears.

These are the naked Rarebears that come with no decals or covering.

The first thing to do is remove all the little nibs that are dotted over the surface of the foam parts. These are formed by holes in the mould to let the air out as the parts are pressed into shape. They cause a fair bit of drag if left on, so because we want a slippery, fast plane, off they come!!

You can see from this photo, just what I'm talking about. The best way to remove them is with a soft block and some 800 grit paper. This takes them off with out scratching the surface or digging or tearing into it. You may also notice a bit of a dag along the trailing edge of the ailerons, like a bit of flash that makes the trailing edge look wider than it is. It's hard to see in a photo but if you run your finger back past the trailing edge you can defiantly feel it. I Remove this one as well.

Another thing with some Rarebears is that the carbon spar strip is proud of the underside of the wing. This isn't much good for going fast and needs to be fixed.

So I carefully sand it down flush with some 120 grit paper glued to a block of plywood
I don't cut into the wing, just sand that little bit of spar till it's flush. If your worried about diging into the wing a strip of masking tape down either side of the spar will protect the foam and make it easy to only attack the carbon that's sticking out. It will also stop the black carbon dust staining the snow white foam.

Here's the block I use for sanding the spar. It's much causer than the one I use to take the little nibs off.

Rarebears need a good colour scheme!!

They are small and fast, so colours that aid in orientation are a must!!

With 4 of the same airframes in one race, it pays to be flying one that stands out and is easy to track. Every thing helps and everything needs too, when your racing.

My colour scheme is red white and blue on top and yellow and blue on the bottom. I use acrylic lacquer for painting my rare bears. This is automotive paint and is available in touch up cans from supacheap auto. It doesn't attack the foam at all and is a fast and extremely durable finish. It's very nice to spray much better than the cheap enamels that you get from bunnings. It doesn't bleed under masking tape and dries very rapidly as well.

Is anyone bringing their Trojans to race at Pitt Town at the end of the month, or will the program be too full to fit them in?

Here's a bargain for the right buyer...

Purchased this half-finished project on RCTrader a couple years ago, intending to complete it as a larger scale UAV. Besides unboxing it and checking out how it faired in transport (some very minor crush damage to a rib, and some misc small cuts in covering) I've not touched it since.

Reluctant sale, as I'd like to get to it one day... but that day is likely a few years out still. Condition of sale is I get to see it fly sometime Biggrin

Airframe is a Hugin (or Mugin?) platform, v-tail with 6ft wingspan.

Airframe comes with:

Also included is a complete Eagletree system:
Finally, we have:
  • FPV transmitter (details unknown, but functional)
  • 21HQX Sony Super EXVIEW CCD bullet camera
Note that the satellite receiver pictured is not included. Additionally, I recall some miscellaneous hardware was missing - prospective buyers are welcomed and encouraged to first inspect.

I'd also recommend that the future owner undertake a "TLC + lightening" project, as some of the gear is just overkill (strobe lights, really?) and installed in the heaviest way possible.

Easily over $1000 worth of gear. Looking for $350 ono.

Will consider parting out some gear (e.g. eagletree system, servostation) for reasonable offers.

Interested? Leave me a message here, or contact me via the details listed in http://forum.rcflyingclub.com/showthread.php?tid=410

It's on again. Practice on Satterday the 30th Racing on Sunday the first!!

Come allong and fly at Pitt Town, the second nicest flying field in all of NSW (almost as good as McCoy Park)

Bring those RareBears or anything you want race, newcomers will be warmly welcomed.

Even if your not flying come and watch and cheer the brave PRCAC pilots as they risk both foam and balsa in a deadly high speed flirt with fourtune. At a pace of well over 100 mileas an hour around a coures shorter than two football fields long.

There's no backing off for the corners in pylon racing!!

So come allong and enjoy some seriously good fun and lots of fast and furious action all day!!

There will be some nailbightingly close flying action in the hotly contested Q-500 class. Where answers to such pressing questions as, "how short does Hasset really mow the lawn?" and "has Scooter visited the optometrist yet?" could be revieled.

Mark it your on calender, Let the better half know your going to be busy that weekend, wipe the dust off that helmut or buy a new one (>$10 at bunnings I hear) and get amongst it. I guarentee you'll never be the same, ever again.

See you there!!

FOR SALE
I built this last year from an Xtreme RC Midi Wemo tech 90mm fan and ARC 36-75-1 balanced by Xtreme. + Xtreme RC lighting HV ESC 100A upto 12 cell. I used full metal gear servos with 15A BEC.
After trying to maiden this Jet last year on 8S it was @ 85db so its over the limit and wasn't allowed to fly it.
on 6S it was good @ 76db but as I took off the ESC cut off..I had to land quick and and ripped the retract out and some of the missiles. No damage to the Jet, missiles can be glued back on.. but Landing gear needs a new one.(Xtreme RC says my Lipo is not good for this High end Motor, fan and ESC. I need high C rated lipos. I can also add a 10-12 blad fan and increase performance and sound). Well the Jet has been sitting in the garage for well over 6 moth and I don't think I will set up again for a fly... It's looks goo and in new codition. So its up for sale.
The Xtreme RC Midifan, ARCmotor and HV ESC balanced cost me $425
The F100 cost me with all servo's and bits $250.
Total: $675
If anyone is interested I will take $400 or make me a reasonable offer.. Just need to add new retracts. I would love to see someone fly it.
Happy to sell the components separately if interested but I have to cut into the fuse a little to get to the ESC.

Hi guys,
for those of you who don't know, I also dabble in R/C cars. I race on Friday nights at the old Riverstone meat works in a spec. class called VTA (Vintage Trans Am).

VTA uses the old Muscle Car bodies from the '60's and '70's, wheel/tyre combo's that look like the Dragway and Centre Line mags that were all the rage on hotted up cars in the old days. And IMO these guys bring a character/nostalgia to the track.

Because I've had a couple of Valiants in my day and am a Chrysler man deep down, my body of choice is the Plymouth 'Cuda. Here are some that I've painted, the graphics are water slide decals that I made with my printer and go on the inside of the body before painting

I fly...crash...fix....fly.....crash...fix.....fly ...and do the occasional cartoon.
Bixler seems to be the flavour of the day...lately some new Bixlers bought as RTF have found the the throws reversed and can't be rectified at the transmitter....a real bummer for newbies keen to try their new plane!Sick
