I don't want to do this, but it has to happen.

A brand new FMS 1400mm P-51D in the "Gunfighter" livery. I've mostly assembled it, but there is still an hour or two's work required to complete it - needless to say, it's never been flown. It's the version 8 model of this line, so has all the updates - uprated motor, sequencer on the gear doors, etc.

To be sold as standard with you to supply the receiver and battery - ie a PNP configuration. I paid $280 for it, which was a good reduction on the usual RRP but I've got to pass it on, so it's yours for $200. I've thrown the packaging away, so I can't ship the thing - if you'd like it, then PM me and I'll meet you at the field or whatever.

ALL GONE & FINISHED -

I am offering this to club members first as I am urgently needing to get this lot cleared for the space before I go back to work on the 12th.

I have a heap of gear to go. I am not asking nor expecting a lot for it just make me an offer for the lot as I need to move it for the space & to make sure I can keep flying the electrics I now have.

Photo's attached give you the items and all of this is together.

* Futaba Skysport 6A - 36 Hrz FM Radio. Extra Crystal set is included and all working.
36.1 on each plane. (Except the Spitfire which is 2.4 Ghz & the P27 which has its own controller - in picture (I think from memory))
36.45 spare crystal for radio & receiver as a back up frequency. Never actually used it though still new in pack & included.
* Each of the planes has a full set of servo's. (Some micros)
* Several receivers and batteries as well as spares - Some still sealed and not even opened. (Such as several prop's for different planes and gliders.)
* all the planes need some work to get them back in the air though the base's are there for fully functioning aircraft with a bit of work.
* Electric Starter

  FrSky Taranis Plus Simulators

Hey guys,

After 2 complete failures with bixler 3 I decided to get some practice first.
My FrSky Taranis Plus with X8R combo was just delivered and it doesn't seem to have a trainer cable. Looks like a standard 3.5mm jack like used on my headphones. Can I use any 3.5mm jack cable with my radio or is a special cable needed?

Also, to connect to my computer for use with a simulator, should I get one of these?

Question Please Help with Battery Choice for T-28 Trojan

Hi, I am getting my T-28 Trojan ready for flight. The 2x Batteries which are 18 MOnths old and never used have gone puffy and I think I should replace them before getting the bird in the sky.

Currently are 2x Zippy 2200 3Cell 25 Series with an adaptor cable to convert to fit the plug in the Trojan. Pics attached.

1st advice from un named hobby shop was just to purchase one or 2 of their last batteries which both had different connectors and they didn't comment about how I would adapt / convert them so not sure that was practical advice?

I have checked online and found other Zippy batteries with different specs. Such as ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 40C
ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 2S1P 20C
ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 4S1P 40C

I really appreciate any of your time in giving me some tips to make sure I get the right power for the plane. It is the only one I have at the moment with the larger battery. When I am confident with the Trojan I will then start looking at some additional Planes. Smile

  SK450 Quadcopter

These things are rather interesting machines!!

I'm really new to quad copters and have just been tinkering around with HK's ARF kit version of the SK450. It's the first reasonable sized one I've ever flown. The only other experience I've had flying quads is with tiny indoor models with pokey little radio sets that they are shipped with.

This is an entirely different beast

It comes with everything almost ready to go just bind a receiver, set up your radio and it flies pretty much straight out of the box. I was impressed!!

But a few modifications are always fun and it's interesting to see if few improvements can be made, but first a bit about my radio set up.

I reckon a handy thing to have on any model is telemetry, mainly so I can have an idea of the condition of my flight pack.
Apparently there's no gliding a or autorotation possible with a quad copter. Fortunately I have a Taranis radio which works really well for this!! It does take a reasonable bit of setting up as far as programming the radio is concerned, but it has facility in spades to make flying a lot easier and can be set up nicely to let you know what’s going on.

This is how I've set it up. When the radio first turns on It checks that all the switches are forward and the throttle is at minimum, this is the default condition and I didn't change it because I quite like this feature.

Then it says the name of the model "SK450 Quad copter 01"
After that it announces the lipo pack voltage "x.xx volts" so you know if your starting with a fresh pack. Then it announces the status of the auto stabilisation. "Stabilisation off" then after every time the stabilisation status is changed

When the pack voltage falls below a set voltage it gives a warning "battery low" and starts to read out the pack voltage at 10 second intervals. If it falls below a further, lower, set voltage It gives the warning "battery critical" and reads out the pack voltage every 5 seconds. This can also be switched off with one of the transmitter switches so I can have it not distract me while I'm landing or trying to concentrate on bringing it home. But at start up it's default position is on

the taranis also announces the armed or safe status when the radio is used to arm or make safe the KK2 board that controls the quad copter.

I've also set the timer up so that it times out after 5min20 seconds and the timer is only active whilst the throttle is not at idle.

If anyone has a Taranis and an SK450 I'm more than happy to pass on a copy of the program so you can use it or modify it suite your set up. It took me about 1/2 a day to sort out including making the custom voice files. I’m sure it could still be improved as well.

  Bix3 or Hobbyzone Delta Ray for first plane

Hi guys,

For a long while I have wanted to get into the hobby, and after watching lots of instructional and review vids on youtube, as well as some other research, I think I am ready to make my first purchase.

I've looked at whats available locally and in my price range, and have narrowed it down to 2 different packages:

I am leaning towards the Bix3 as I didn't really want to spend over $200 on my trainer, but it seems the Delta Ray comes with a better transmitter (Spektrum DX4) and I like the idea of the whole SAFE system, as I doubt I could get to a club, and don't have any experienced pilots to supervise/rescue me.

What do you guys think about those models for a beginner?

Also, I would like to mount a camera to record video, and later implement a FPV goggle setup after i develop my skills and my budget allows. I know the Bix3 is FPV capable, how about the Delta Ray?

Oh and If you guys know of any other good models that fall into this category that I can order online locally, please let me know.

  150W Discharger

I tend to crash or suffer miscellaneous mechanical mishaps only on days when I've brought lots of charged lipos to the field. That leaves me with a sackful of charged batteries, and nothing but the puny 20 watt discharging capacity of my iCharger 206B to bring them all back down to storage (3.85V/cell) level.

It takes around an hour to discharge a 3S 2200mAh pack in that manner. Last Saturday I had 17 such packs with me. I went through 6 before my Trex 450 developed a strange tail wobble, which put an end to heli fun for the day.

Now, squeezing 11 hours of discharging into 6 hours before bedtime poses some serious logistical difficulties. Even worse, the only way the charger can bleed off all that energy is to heat itself up, and let its 40mm fan whirr itself to oblivion. It's slightly abusive to the charger, and that has always made me uneasy.

(With the iCharger line it's possible to add an external power resistor, but there are drawbacks which are "beyond the scope of this article".)

Enter the 150W $20 discharger from RCX:

It uses three 50W halogen globes to handle discharging duties, which means a full 3S2200 pack is back down to storage voltage in minutes - about as long as it takes to fly it.

The unit came with a Deans plug. Being an XT60 aficionado, I decided to unsolder the Deans plug and replace it with an XT60 on a pigtail. This photo shows the location where the Deans plug was originally soldered:

   

Overall, I'm very pleased with this discharger, and I'd recommend it to anyone whose OCD makes it impossible to leave lipos charged overnight.

It's quite an accurate 2S-6S battery checker too. I verified its voltage readouts against a lab-grade instrument. It was always within 0.01V, which is very good.

Hi guys,
A few months ago I bought a micro Trojan from Kelletts.
It seemed like the battery that came with it was stuffed so I bought a few more from HK, but now I think there's something wrong with the charger. The red light never goes off when a battery is in.
All it has is a red light that comes on. It takes AA batteries but can also be plugged in to the wall.
I put one of the HK batteries in it and now it seems like it's dead.

I have no receipt but I don't mind buying a cheap charger from HK.

Do you guys reckon it's the charger?
Is there a better quality charger for 1cell batteries I could get?

Hi Everyone.
I've noticed that some mythical Stuff called Foam-board in America seems to be getting more and more popular as a building material. The guys at Flite Test have a whole range of free plans and builds using the stuff, including a really cool idea of a Power Pod that allows you to plug and play a range of different model configurations.

From what I can gather it seems to be ridiculously cheap over there, only a dollar or 2 for a big sheet. I'm pretty sure it's just a sheet of foam sandwiched between to sheets of cardboard.

Does anyone know if this stuff is available locally? I'd love to be able to play with some of these designs but I need a source of foamboard.

Calling on the Members expertise.

I have a Dynam Waco that's ripped the undercarriage out on 3 occasions....yeah I know, learn how to land properly, blah blah.

I was wondering if there is a lightweight filler compound that can be used to strengthen the fuse and re-fix the mounting plate.

Being central to the plane hopefully will not upset COG but obviously the lighter the better.

Any thoughts?
