That looks cool. What do you call it.
I'd love one to take off vertically over the trees in Back yard. Then hoot around in the sky. Then land back like a quad....Thumbup

I want one....Leet
You D man Claudio, I would love to be there for your maiden attempt at a vertical landing. But knowing you and your electronic wizzardry, you will probably have 3 kg of electronics,15 gyros all cross linked and software from the space shuttle in the sucker. Go you good thing!

Hey George, it's called a Quadshot. Check it out here: http://thequadshot.com/ I backed their Kickstarter project about a year ago. It carries a GoPro, so perfect for those kind of vids.

Little worried about the use of the word "attempt" there Smile Maiden will probably be just a few hops and hover attempts in the yard. If it survives that, I'll debut it at McCoy.

The thing I really want to see are the first transitions to and from horizontal flight.

I helped out on a similar VTOL concept developed at Sydney Uni, maybe 11 years ago, and for this kind of vehicle the transition is everything. One thing that still amazes me in the technology progress in that time - from a specialised platform with expensive components then through to what is virtually a disposable toy today. For example, the ring laser gyro used on that VTOL a decade ago is now a MEMS gyro, 4mm to a side, weighing less than a gram, $15 in single units and you're carrying one in your smartphone. Crazy!

Ok, that's all from me in this thread until I get some footage. Until then:

A little onboard from today....

Is that Joe Satriani in the background?
Is indeed, Why? from the Extremist.
Video with a HD cam on my Katana 50e at PRCAC Yesterday.
I'm sure you can see the pilot's(Gary) face change with the G-Forces.

Motion sickness tablets recomended before viewing. Enjoy.

That's one cool pilot, He didn't flinch at all....
Great footage George.
Love that camera angle.
that was awesome and sounded great as well . jealous of your flight time !!!!

Zippy flight max Compact size S6 3300mah. I had the timer set for 5minutes but got 10min out of it and still had 3.8ea cell. Very happy with the Katana set now.
thanks George , ill look at those batteries . im using turnigy 6s 3000mah , had a 6 min flight and bought the plane in for landing and each cell was down to 3.3 volts !!! therefore from now on 5minutes max for me with these batteries .
Now you have watched it once. Watch it again and look at the wing loading at the extremities of the screen. Really hope for the planes sake that they will put up with that sort of abuse for a long time!

I hope it will last. I took over 1kg off since you tested it for me last time. Changed all servos and using smaller pack.

Gary, I watched over and over, all I can see are the extra large Ailerons working I cannot see any flex of the wings.

More Tasmanian stupidity... Leet

Including a nice bit of on board footage of what happens when an Electraglide and a Bixler meet mid air....

Language warning on the soundtrack later in the piece.

Was it just my eyes, or was there really that much flex in the wings of that machine which featured at the opening and closing scenes?
Yep... That's the Electrogide I told you about that I handed on before I snapped it in half Biggrin
... and something random I just found. All the reasons why you SHOULD join a club...

Got the Quadshot maidened yesterday. Here's a couple of my first hovering attempts (which were better than my last - no video sadly), before I handed it over to a professional. Thanks again Frank! Smile

Will get comfortable hovering first... but really want to see a transition to forward flight and back now!
Looking good Claudio !!

I can't wait to see how it flies in fixed wing mode
A nice FPV film from Norway Smile
Here's some video from sunday afternoon

thats awesome , which is the fastest ?
Frank R Rarebear customed Electric setup screamed at 216 km/h
Stock Rarebear does approx 150 km/h
Mine setup with different Prop does about 168 km/h possible a little more.

Steve Smile

With a 40A ESC and Samste's props and a good fresh 4S pack I reckon there's not much change from 180 with the stock motor.

That Motor Frank is using makes the rarebear extra quick and it will go even better when his good Lipos arrive, the ones he was using were a little tired. Smile

I can't wait to see how they go all out on a big open field !!

Wingtipper are you comming out to Richmond on Sunday ??

You guys have no idea , how much i wanted to come out and fly at Mckoy last Sunday , i was rostered on Saturday 12 hrs , then had a day in lieu on Sunday to attend my wifes 40th , it was a tossup between flying and the club for the 40th , but i lost the toss .
would've loved to go to Richmond just to observe the pylon planes , but we're off to sunny Coffs Harbour for the week , i wonder which luggage i can keep out of the boot so i can throw a plane in .

enjoy Sunday at Richmond .

Have a good trip mate,
It was my sisters birthday on Sunday but since her and the family live in Perth a Late phone call was the order of the day Smile

Flying over McCoy last Sunday. On board HD cam Chasing Jason's Big Yak. You can also see Eamon's little 50mm Jet.
