My glider in project build may alter that record in the near future Wink unless that glider you have gives me grief Smile

Yes very interested in speed gun but i couldn't see the price ?
They're around $120USD I believe, have emailed the local distie for more info
i like the challenge thread , cant challenge any records yet but i do like the parachute idea, my son would love that.... Wink
I'll probably be up for a challenge or two. Smile
How about who can safely Land on the Electricity Tower Icon_twisted

Paul
Gday All

Being one who flies a glider there is NO reason that the endurance record should be held by, of all things, a Stryker. :?
I vow to endeavour to rectify this lamentable state of affairs. Redfaceops:

Also. Landing comps, closest to the "keys and centerline", Best Landing (From an aesthetic perspective).
Additionally, comps pertaining to anything that will support the tasks needed to attain Bronze, Gold wings etc etc.

Paul

Hey thats not fair your one up on that already, on who can safely Land on the Electricity Tower, i tried with the A-10 and looked what happen. Lol

I too agree a stryker should not hold the record rob, The Funjet should Wink
how about who can succesfully mount their prop to somebody else's motor during flight..
or who can successfully put their rudder through their cowling.. Smile
Here's another one.
Who can land inverted. Wink
Kev you came close didn't you?

Paul
Recorded Records listed at the Beginning of this thread
1225 watts ! thats awesome.. im liking the eflight 46 Smile
Gday Kev

I ran up my E-Flite 46 in my mega cub yesterday. What a piece of kit!!!
At 1/2 throttle I was very impressed, at 3/4 throttle I was having trouble holding the model, at full throttle.....well.... I still have a smile on my face today.
In a nutshell, one hell of a motor. Highly recommended. Even my wife was impressed!
I was a bit worried that it would not be enough as the cub is quite heavy now I have everything installed however the motor test completely dissolved any doubt whatsoever.

Cheers
Rob B
great news rob cant wait to see that cub getting around, how long you think until we might see her?

i definately have the eflight 46 locked in for the pc9 but im not starting that kit until the new year.
my wife has made me promise to get the easy sport flying so as all the time and money was not wasted on it.. thats ok tho im looking forward to using it to get used to flying a bigger plane..
im loving it at the moment i have the rebuilt trojan to fly , the funjet , the easy sport, tucano to build then the pc9! lifes good, i dont miss my nitro cars now! Icon_twisted
I intend to have the Cub complete and at the field this weekend, however as Darren is at Temora I may not fly it, depends upon the weather. If it is good oh I will fly, if not, wait for Darren!

Cheers
Rob B
I reckon she will fly sweet Rob, The only thing I can stress is be ready to jump on the rudder as the torque kicks in and don't yank her off the deck too early, both are mistakes I made with my decathlon.

unfortunately i wont be down to see her this weekend then as its my sons b'day but i hope to see it the following weekend if your there.. Wink
Thanks for the heads up Kieran, unsticking too early should not be a prob for me as due to the weight of the aircraft it will not fly until it is good and ready, I am going to do some taxi tests to check to check the torque effect, suspect it will be substantial and nasty if let go too far, just like the real J3 Cub.

Cheers

Tested out the new Scorpion Motor for Funjet at field this afternoon. 8-) 8-)

I was hoping to break the 200

How did you mount it Steve?
I take it you have overcome the shattering of the mount problem?
Great speed considering there was hardly any wind today.
If you had last Sunday's wind behind you today you would have passed the 200 for sure Smile

Paul
I ended up mounting motor with 4 screws as originally only had two screws, drill out slightly mount to fit.
I also Drilled out Prop mount so it would fit closer to end of shaft motor.
Running 6 x 4 prop.

I did 7 test flights with it this afternoon and i had a lot of fun Biggrin Very happy with setup

Motor was warm but not hot and did not give any rest to motor just swapped battery and went again, again, again.
ESC was warm but rated at 60 amp continuous with a burst 80 amps for 10 seconds.
Lipos Did get hot, they had a work out.

Quote:Scorpion HK Series Brushless Motors are built from the best materials available, and are designed to provide both quality and performance at an affordable price. Scorpion starts with high quality aluminum alloy parts that are produced on the latest CNC milling machines. These parts are then gold anodized to provide a beautiful, long-lasting finish. The stators are made with 0.2mm laminations to give maximum efficiency, and minimum Eddy current losses. The stators are epoxy coated to prevent shorts, and are wound with wire that is rated at 180 degrees C (356 F). The magnets used in Scorpion Motors are N-50EH style, which are rated for operation at 200 degrees C (392 F), making a motor that is virtually impossible to burn up in normal use.Scorpion Motors are built to last, and are backed with a 2-Year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. However, due to the high RPM of these motors, and the fact that we cannot control the installation and setup, the bearings are not covered by the 2-Year warranty, nor is any subsequent damage caused to the motor by a bearing failure. Bearings are a normal wear item, and as such, need to be maintained and changed periodically. For maximum life, make sure that a sufficient gap is left between the pinion and main gear during motor installation to avoid binding, and put a small drop of oil on each bearing every 5-6 flights. It is the responsibility of the pilot to ensure that the bearings are maintained properly.
Nice bit of work there Steve - I was at home doing paperwork today and I could hear something flying at the field, but couldn't afford the time off to investigate - wish I had now.
Cheers,
S
holy shit  Redface

thats awesome ... god damn i cant wait to get into these challenges Icon_twisted
This challenge thread is turning up some concerted efforts for the greatest speed, as I have nothing to compete with this I am going to tentatively nominate the Cub for the following "awards".

Greatest Wingspan - 2.1m (Does not fit in car, not even close)
Highest TOW - It's a fricken heavy thing, will weigh tonight.
Greatest Amount of Power for the Least Impressive Result - It is 4S with an E-Flite 46 however it aint gonna go like the PC9 that's for sure.
Best Power Line Ornament - If I stick this on the lines/ towers it is going to look bloody awesome, (big and migrane inducing yellow).
Crispiest Crash Sound - See big and heavy reference earlier + all balsa. If I plant this thing it is going to sound like a pack of twisties in a blender when it hits.

Stay tuned Biggrin

Cheers
Rob B
nah rob she is going to be a beauty ! nothing bad will happen! and i cant wait to see it! one thing tho.. will you be flying it down while you jog behind?
I'm going to nominate for "The aircraft with the shortest flight time"
My Supercheaper P51 Mustang has gone straight to the ground on every hand launch so far.
I might even be runner up in this category too, Ultrafly F16 best flight so far about 4 meters. Smile

Paul
I also Nominate Ingo for having "The Aircraft with most repairs"
Take your pick on whichever models he has. Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin

Paul
Gday All

This thread is getting seriously funny, we will have to formalise the various "Booby" awards.
Additionally... I'll have you all know Ingo turned up on Sunday with an aircraft that was seriously underpowered, yes, you read correctly UNDERPOWERED. Shock
No one was more surprised than I.
Ingo vowed to rectify the situation ASAP, he was last spotted carefully reviewing Kierans outrageous Decathlon for inspiration.
Wink

Rob B
LMAO above 3 posts!
perhaps the challenge should be for someone to actually get a gws airframe to fly.. Lol
Hmmm
May have to dust off my P40 for that challenge.
Oddly enough the motor and ESC that power my glider originally came out of it.

Cheers
Rob B
