Nice work Chris - thanksamillion!
I am planning on mowing tomorrow afternoon on the way home from work, any assistance appreciated.
I will be there a little after 3pm.
I was going to do it on Friday instead Gazz - to give it another 24 hrs to dry off.
It's up to you though, if you're keen to get at tomorrow then go for it but I can't be there tomorrow.
No probs mate, Fridays good for me. Should be there about 3 pm.
Right then - I'll see you there on Friday Gazz, all good!
Anyone had a chance to check the runway in the last couple of days?
I won't get a chance to mow it tomorrow before the weekend - I'll bet the stalky weeds need trimming Frown

Sorry Steve, Was all talk last weekend about mowing Today or Tommorow but been a little bit busy.
So i won't be able to help out at all.

Steve
Just arrived home after cutting the weeds. Only did the strip. Stopped about 1.5 metres from the southern edge as time was way too short and tank was empty.

Hi Guys,
Thanks Pete, good work.
I am intending on going down to mow a little more of the strip and taxi way if needed.

Taken at about 5:00pm today ... Merry Christmas!

Wow look how it runs straight down the strip !!

It will probably dry up pretty quickly tho' the ground was very dry prior to this rain
could be OK in couple of days
I can't help but notice that most of the water runs along a path that has no reeds to impede it's flow.
We need to take advantage of the summer days and clear a path for the water to flow which is away from our strip.

It will certainly be several days before the strip is usable, so much for flying on Thursday me's think, especially given the chance of further rain.

Thanks Steve M for the Updated Pic Post.

I thought the Field would be under water as we have had a lot of rain.
Yes Chris it would be nice to be able to get and slash the reeds but the weather seems to always put a end to that when it looks like we can.

Steve
I droped by the field this morning about 10.30 and I was quite surprised how well it has drained.
There are a few puddles on the strip in the usual places but with this afternoons wind and a little sun, I recon it will be usable tomorrow for smaller aircraft.

There's not much rain forecast for the next four days and I'm thinking that it will need a mow again on Friday. Should be good to go for the weekend then!

Yes that's a very good idea 'cause if we don't we will eventually have the water washing away our strip.

we need to do this before Easter as that's traditionally the wettest time of year in Sydney.

Thanks for posting the photo's Gazz. Hopefully it will be OK Tomorrow I'm thinking of heading down that way at some stage during the day

Steve
I will join you Friday.
What time are you mowing

I was thinking about 4:00pm Gazz - give it as much time as possible to recover, spend two hours on it and then home for some beers while the batteries charge for Saturday.
Claudio is just finishing off the runway as Chrism takes a brushcutter to the reeds beside the western end of the strip - should be good-to-go for the weekend!

What better way could there be to "de-flower" my new mower?
All good to go for the weekend!

Each and everyone in the club owes you a beer for your continued efforts in keeping the strip in tip top condition Steve.

Well done & many thanks!
Yes indeed, thanks Steve, I would come and help, but I dont have the luxury of 26 weeks holidays a year working (and I use that term loosely) in a capitalist tyranical draconian teaching job........ guess I should have paid more attention at school eh?

No worries Gazz and Chris - it's not a big deal and like you're suggesting Gazz, I've got to get out from behind a desk and do something useful every now and again anyway Smile

The ground is looking better - the effects of the heavy rain we had at Xmas are history! I was impressed with how solid the soil is on the southern side of the strip. It's high time to get rid of more of those reeds so that we an inch the runway further south. Looking at the weather forecast suggests not much rain for the next week either - good!
Yes, well done Steve, looks impressive, can hardly wait till tomorrow.

Again a big thanks.

Ah ... music to my ears from the direction of McCoy Airfield Smile
From the front yard of my place I can hear a woochipping machine getting a very solid workout!
It's another very warm day out here today - KevB and I discussed the possibility of mowing the runway, but can't do it today because I've got to be elsewhere in the late afternoon when I was thinking that it might have cooled down enough to mow.

Instead, the plan is to fly tomorrow regardless (haven't seen the strip since Sunday, but hopefully it's not too rough) and then mow the thing tomorrow evening in readiness for Sunday.
Hi Steve,
What time are you thinking of mowing tomorrow arvo?
I may be able to assist depending on timing.

Cheers
Chris M
guys you have no idea the transformation of the field now . myself and jason went for a fly late this arvo and the field was like a fun park . twice the size for approaching . transformed the whole place . and the strip is wider .
THANKS TO THE COMMITTEE , AND PARRAMATTA COUNCIL FOR LOOKING AFTER US . NOW WE HAVE A FLYING FIELD !!!!!!!

Not until around 6:30pm Chris - Willy is forecasting 43 degC tomorrow! Shocker!

So Frank - how badly did the runway need mowing? If it's not critical then it would be good to know, since mowing tomorrow ain't going to be fun!
