Ok I am going up to Bejing in a couple of weeks for work, and hoping to hit a Hobby shop if I can find one, and have the time. With the dollar going down, not sure if stuff will be that much cheaper than HK... but I'm hopeful.

What would you buy (and can bring back in the plane)?

Currently thinking;
New transmitter (taranis)
Small plane (eg fun fighter like)
Small quad?
Parts?

Budget, even if things are cheaper, is always a problem, but just looking for ideas here? What would you get?
Motors, servos, small plane, Taranis, Spare parts. Reason being that you can scatter them throughout your luggage easily.
FYI for anyone going to Beijing hoping to hit some RC shops... my trip was a fizzer. Couldnt find a decent shop with good stock. Had a local with me on the Saturday who did some advance research and then drove around to 3 different shops... all disappointing. They told me that the govt has put in some news laws limiting RC flyers in Beijing, so people are leaving the hobby... I also suspect the online vs brick'n'mortar shop battle is also to blame.
Hmm - interesting.
Hopefully this won't impact us further down the line as I expect HobbyKing, RC-Castle, Philip's Workshop and the other internet vendors will still enjoy a healthy export market.
I had a similar experience in Tokyo a couple of years ago. After considerable research, I'd lined up a route through all the most notable RC shops, and even somehow managed to drag along my female companion (that was the toughest part!).

It was all rather disappointing. The hobby shops looked a lot like some of ours - not long for this world.
