Normally the receiver will flash if it detects an interruption to communications since a previous lock to a transmitter - so a brown-out will get it to happen. However, by far the most common cause of this is when you plug a battery into a plane (after having switched the transmitter on of course) and then you disconnect the battery and re-connect it (or another battery) whilst leaving the transmitter on the whole time.
